A leading research institution in Sharjah seeks an Assistant or Associate Professor in African and African Diaspora music, musicology, or ethnomusicology. This full-time role involves teaching, research, and developing innovative curricula. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. by appointment and must possess expertise in African music. The position begins in Fall 2025, with responsibilities including teaching, supervising graduate students, and contributing to scholarly research.
The Africa Institute (Global Studies University), Sharjah, UAE, seeks applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor in African and African Diaspora music, musicology, or ethnomusicology within the Department of Humanities. The successful candidate will specialize in research related to one or more regions within the African continent and is encouraged to have expertise in African and African diaspora music. This is a full-time, 9-month position beginning in Fall 2025, located in Sharjah, UAE.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in African music, musicology, or ethnomusicology at the time of appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in an active program of scholarly research and publication and to participate in committees and supervise student research.
The Africa Institute is a globally oriented institution dedicated to the research, documentation, study, and teaching of Africa and its diaspora within the humanities and social sciences. It operates as a research-based think-tank and postgraduate studies institution offering master’s and Ph.D. programs, and diplomas in African Languages and Translation. The Africa Institute aims to be a model center of excellence in research, teaching, and documentation, collaborating with peers in Africa, Europe, and North America. The Africa Institute is integrated into Global Studies University (GSU) to form a network of semi-independent institutes and colleges focused on different regions worldwide. The institution is led by Hoor Al Qasimi, President of Global Studies University, and Salah M. Hassan, Dean of The Africa Institute and Chancellor of Global Studies University.

Candidates should also provide a statement outlining their research activities and a writing sample (published journal article, book chapter, or dissertation chapter) of roughly the length of a standard academic journal article.
