Overview
Atlantis Resorts is hiring a physically skilled, certified freediver to perform in underwater shows, themed events, promotional activities, and guest meet‑and‑greets while maintaining strict diving, animal welfare, and emergency safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform as a mermaid during underwater shows, guest meet‑and‑greets, themed programs, and special events.
- Execute choreographed swimming routines with controlled, graceful, and expressive underwater movements.
- Use improvisational performance skills when adapting to guest interaction or changing show conditions.
- Swim safely and confidently while wearing a mermaid tail or monofin.
- Maintain character presentation and positive audience engagement throughout each appearance.
- Interact warmly with children and adults during scheduled entertainment activities.
- Participate in rehearsals, movement training, show reviews, and performance assessments.
- Attend costume fittings and ensure costume components fit securely before entering the water.
- Support promotional appearances, photography sessions, media activities, and resort campaigns when required.
- Follow all requirements in the Atlantis Dubai Dive Operations Manual.
- Comply with instructions issued by the Dive Safety Officer, supervisors, and marine operations personnel.
- Complete pre‑performance safety checks covering costume, monofin, water conditions, entry points, and emergency readiness.
- Maintain strong breath‑hold capability and controlled underwater movement throughout performances.
- Follow emergency procedures and respond immediately to safety signals or operational instructions.
- Maintain required swimming, freediving, rescue, and water safety proficiency.
- Complete the annual departmental swim test and dive medical assessment.
- Maintain accurate personal dive and performance logs.
- Report damaged, defective, or unsafe costumes and equipment to the supervisor immediately.
- Assist with cleaning, drying, storing, inspecting, and maintaining mermaid costumes and related equipment.
- Protect costume materials from damage and ensure equipment remains ready for scheduled performances.
- Maintain a safe, secure, clean, and healthy environment for guests, colleagues, performers, and animals.
- Perform assigned duties confidently while working near marine animals.
- Respect animal welfare procedures and follow instructions from marine animal care specialists.
- Attend safety drills, operational meetings, training sessions, and emergency exercises.
- Maintain current knowledge of Atlantis Dubai facilities, attractions, events, and guest services.
- Protect confidential guest, colleague, performance, and operational information.
- Complete other reasonable aquatic entertainment duties assigned by management.
Ideal Profile
- Recognized freediving certification is mandatory.
- Strong swimming ability and the capacity to pass the annual departmental swim assessment.
- Ability to hold breath underwater safely for extended performance periods.
- Excellent physical health and the ability to pass the annual dive medical examination.
- Previous experience in aquatic performance, synchronized swimming, professional diving, dance, theatre, or live entertainment is preferred.
- Comfortable performing in front of large audiences.
- Confident interacting with children, families, and guests from different cultural backgrounds.
- Able to swim and perform underwater for extended periods in varying water temperatures.
- Physical endurance for repeated movements, rehearsals, and prolonged periods in costume.
- Ability to wear and control a monofin or mermaid tail safely.
- Capable of lifting or carrying costume components and equipment weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.
- CPR, first aid, and lifeguard certification are preferred, or willingness to obtain the required certifications.
- Strong understanding of water safety and emergency response expectations.
- Clear and confident written and spoken English.
- Positive attitude, dependable work ethic, and mature professional behaviour.
- Comfortable working in close proximity to marine animals.
- Able to follow detailed instructions and respond quickly to safety signals.
- Flexible availability for evenings, weekends, public holidays, rehearsals, and special events.
