Job summary

Fakeeh Health’s flagship Fakeeh University Hospital is seeking a Coding Officer to review patient episodes, assign ICD-10 and ACHI codes, and ensure accurate DRG determination. You will work with physicians and healthcare teams to clarify diagnoses and streamline records.

In this role you will stay current with coding guidelines, mentor trainees, and support billing accuracy across departments within a fast-paced hospital setting in Dubai.

Qualifications

• 2 years of experience in medical coding, preferably in a healthcare or hospital setting.
• Familiarity with ICD-10, ACHI, SNOMED CT and other coding systems.
• Ability to interact with physicians to clarify information.
• Keeps up-to-date with coding guidelines and new codes.

Responsibilities

• Assigns accurate codes for diagnoses, services, and procedures using ICD-10, ACHI and SNOMED CT.
• Verifies DRG assignments and coding completeness for inpatient and outpatient records.
• Communicates with physicians and other staff to obtain needed details.
• Entrusts data entry into billing and reporting databases and supports audits.
• Trains students and coder trainees as needed.
• Collaborates with the billing department to ensure timely claim submission.
• Interacts with insurers to resolve coding disputes.

JOB PURPOSE:

Responsible for reviewing all clinical information of patient episodes to ensure accurate codes and abstracts of Fakeeh Healthcare services. The Coding Officer will utilize appropriate coding guidelines to assign ICD and ACHI codes and ensure accurate DRG assignment. The Coding Officer will also communicate workflow, backlog, and turn-around-time issues for records.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Utilizes standard medical coding systems (such as ICD-10, ACHI, SNOMED CT, and others) to assign and record accurate codes for all diagnoses, services, procedures, and operations as documented by the attending physician in the patient's medical record for inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Interacts with physicians and other medical staff to clarify or secure additional information necessary for accurate coding of patient records.
• Ensures that all coded information is promptly and correctly entered into the disease, service, and procedure database, and ensures that the final diagnostic code numbers and narrative descriptions of diagnoses and procedures are entered accurately.
• Verifies that all factors required for accurate DRG assignment are present and that all diagnoses are ranked properly.
• Acts as a resource for other departments on coding-related matters, providing support and clarification as needed.
• Prepares or assists in preparing statistical reports or other specialized reports related to patients, diseases, treatments, and procedures.

• Stays updated on coding-related issues, including new coding guidelines, new codes, coding systems, and evolving medical procedures, to ensure accurate coding practices.
• Assists in the training of students, coder trainees, and other staff members as needed.
• Performs compatible mapping with standards and classifications acceptable by Fakeeh Care (e.g., GTIN, CCHI Billing System, ICD-10, etc.).
• Collaborates with the billing department to ensure all bills are satisfied in a timely manner, ensuring accurate coding on billing forms.
• Communicates with insurance companies regarding coding errors, discrepancies, and disputes to facilitate resolution and prompt reimbursement.
• Other duties as assigned within the scope of the job.

Experience:

2 years of experience in medical coding, preferably in a healthcare or hospital setting.
