Job description

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and servicing mechanical machinery and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical machinery and equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical faults and identify the root cause of equipment problems.
• Repair, replace, and adjust mechanical components such as bearings, belts, chains, gears, shafts, pumps, valves, and motors.
• Carry out regular inspection and servicing of production machines.
• Attend to machine breakdowns and restore equipment to proper working condition as quickly as possible.
• Dismantle, assemble, align, and install mechanical equipment and components.
• Lubricate machinery and ensure proper lubrication schedules are followed.
• Check machine alignment, vibration, temperature, and other operating conditions.
• Assist with installation and commissioning of new machinery and equipment.
• Maintain and repair conveyors, compressors, pumps, hydraulic and pneumatic systems where applicable.
• Use hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and workshop equipment safely.
• Maintain proper records of maintenance, repairs, spare parts, and machine breakdowns.
• Coordinate with production operators and supervisors regarding machine issues.
• Identify potential mechanical problems before they cause major breakdowns.
• Maintain the workshop and maintenance area in a clean and organized condition.
• Follow company health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times.
• Ensure all maintenance work is carried out safely and according to company procedures.
• Perform other mechanical maintenance duties assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Manager.

Skills

• Diploma/ITI or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Maintenance is preferred.
• Previous experience as a Mechanical Technician in a factory or manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Good knowledge of mechanical machinery, tools, and maintenance procedures.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment.
• Basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems is an advantage.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and equipment manuals.
• Physically fit and able to work in an industrial environment.
• Good problem-solving and communication skills.
• Responsible, punctual, and safety-conscious.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.
• Willing to work overtime or shifts when required.
