Job summary

Raffles The Palm Dubai is seeking an experienced Mason to join our engineering team. The role covers masonry, repairs and general maintenance across the hotel, reporting to the Engineering Supervisor.

You will work with the Engineering and operations teams to uphold luxury standards and safety requirements. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in civil maintenance, masonry refurbishment, and a proactive approach to problem solving.

Qualifications

• High School graduate and related technical or trades certification.
• 5+ years of experience as a civil technician, preferably in hospitality or engineering.

Responsibilities

• Performs masonry work following safe work practices and procedures.
• Carry out masonry work on walls, floors or other items as directed.
• Repair wall plaster and renderings.
• Repair interior and exterior building walls.
• Erection of new walls and demolition of existing walls as directed.
• Repair wall and floor tile work and lay new tiles.
• Responds to Health and Safety requests promptly.
• Maintain and repair civil works and follow preventive maintenance program.
• Maintain equipment catalog and finishes/color directories.
• Participates in monthly department meetings and provides feedback.
• Reports safety hazards and participates in emergency response as directed.

Job Description

We invite you to join the world of luxury hospitality at Raffles The Palm as we are currently looking for a Mason, reporting to the Engineering Supervisor / Duty Engineer.

The Mason is responsible for carrying out a variety of masonry, construction, repair, and maintenance tasks across the property, ensuring that all work is completed to a high standard and in accordance with the hotel’s safety, quality, and operational requirements.

At Raffles The Palm, the Mason plays an important role in maintaining the beauty, functionality, and exceptional standards of the property. The role requires a skilled, reliable, and detail-oriented professional who can perform masonry work, repairs, and general maintenance efficiently while ensuring that the hotel’s facilities and surroundings are maintained to the highest standards. The Mason works proactively and collaboratively with the Engineering and other operational teams to respond to maintenance requirements and support the seamless operation of the hotel.

• Performs works following safe work practices and procedures
• To carry out all masonry work within the confines of the hotel on walls, floors or any other items as directed.
• To perform repairs to wall plaster and renderings.
• To perform repair work in interior and exterior building walls.
• To carry out erection work of new walls and demolition work of existing walls as directed by the supervisor.
• To carry out repairs on existing wall and floor tile work and to lay new tiles as instructed.
• Responds immediately to all work requests which concern Health and Safety
• Ensures environmentally friendly practices are followed when handling chemicals, paints, varnishes, strippers, and other finishing products
• Responds to guest requests promptly in a professional and courteous manner
• Maintains and repairs all civil works
• Ensures the optimum condition and appearance all civil and finishes by following the preventive maintenance program
• Evaluates and appropriately responds to equipment usage
• Completes all work orders with due diligence
• Daily Maintains the Civil log book highlighting problems and solutions; and activities
• Maintain equipment catalog and finishes/color directories
• Actively participates in the monthly departmental meeting by providing feedback and offering suggestions for improvement
• Completes tasks as assigned by Civil Supervisor, PPM or Maintenance Engineers.
• Reports and documents potential safety hazards
• Participates as directed in the emergency response team

Qualifications

• High School graduate, related technical or trades certification
• At least 5 years’ experience as a civil technician, preferably in the hospitality Industry and/or in an engineering environment

Personal Attributes

• Proficient in all manner of masonry refurbishment, and maintenance plus basic knowledge of one other building operations skill set.
• The ability to use all general repair tools, read shop drawings and specifications, make rough estimates of required materials.
