Job summary

United Arab Emirates University, Department of Family Medicine seeks a librarian to manage electronic resources, renew subscriptions, and support faculty, students, and researchers with access and usage data.

The role involves coordinating with finance and procurement, negotiating terms within budget, and contributing to policies for resource acquisition and budget planning. Strong knowledge of ORCID and PURE is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• Master’s degree in Library Science or Knowledge Management preferred.
• At least 3 years of experience with electronic resources in a research library or with a provider.

Responsibilities

• Manage the library’s electronic resources (databases, e-books, e-journals, and search tools).
• Coordinate with the finance officer and procurement department to renew subscriptions.
• Negotiate subscription terms within the library budget.
• Communicate with service providers to arrange trial access for new databases.
• Provide support to faculty, students, and researchers on accessing resources.
• Ensure continuous access to electronic resources and resolve access issues.
• Provide and analyze usage statistics for library subscriptions.
• Contribute to policies for acquiring and managing electronic resources.
• Provide recommendations to improve subscription strategies and budget allocation.
• Participate in preparing the annual budget plan for electronic resources.
• Follow up with faculty to ensure PURE profiles and research records are up to date.
• Support faculty with ORCID activities including account creation and linking records.

• Negotiate financial terms and subscription plans in line with the library’s budget.
• Communicate with service providers to arrange trial access for new electronic databases.
• Provide support, guidance, and assistance to faculty members, students, and researchers on accessing and using electronic resources.
• Ensure continuous and easy access to electronic resources without interruption.
• Coordinate with providers to resolve access issues.
• Provide and analyze usage statistics for library subscriptions to electronic resources.
• Contribute to developing policies for acquiring and managing electronic resources.
• Provide recommendations to improve subscription strategies and budget allocation.
• Participate in preparing the annual budget plan for electronic resources.
• Knowledge of the research process.
• Follow up with faculty members to ensure their PURE (research information management system used by universities to collect, organize, and showcase research activity) profiles and research records are accurate, complete, and updated on time.
• Support faculty with ORCID-related activities,(ORCID is a digital identifier for researchers, helping distinguish their work from that of others with similar names.) including account creation, profile updates, and linking ORCID records with institutional research systems.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field .

Preferred Qualification

Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Library Science or Knowledge Management.

Expected Skills

At least 3 years of recent practical experience dealing with electronic resources in a research library or with an electronic resource provider.
