Job summary

Target Engineering Construction Co LLC in the UAE seeks a Lead Welding Engineer to lead welding engineering, qualification, inspection, and quality assurance across major EPC projects in oil and gas. You will oversee WPS/PQR, welder qualifications, and contractor documentation to ensure compliance with ASME, API, AWS, and ISO standards.

You will mentor welding teams, coordinate NDT activities, and drive non-conformity resolution and client inspections while ensuring HSE compliance and timely

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
• Certified International Welding Engineer (IWE) or equivalent mandatory.
• Extensive welding engineering, inspection, and QC experience in Oil & Gas EPC.

Responsibilities

• Lead welding planning, WPS/PQR qualification plans and material procurement.
• Develop and approve Welding Procedure Qualifications (PQRs) and WPSs.
• Coordinate NDT (UT, RT, PT, MT) and welding inspections with teams.
• Provide technical leadership and training to welding personnel.
• Ensure compliance with ASME IX, API 1104, AWS and ISO standards.

Are you a highly experienced Lead Welding Engineer with a strong background in large-scale EPC projects within the Oil & Gas industry? We are seeking a technically strong and results-driven professional to lead all welding engineering, qualification, inspection, and quality assurance activities across our major projects.

As a key member of the engineering and quality team, you will oversee welding procedure qualifications, welder certifications, vendor documentation reviews, and welding quality compliance for piping, pipeline, tank, structural steel, marine, power, and industrial plant projects.

YOUR ROLE

As Lead Welding Engineer you will

Welding Planning & Qualification

• Develop and maintain project-specific WPS/PQR qualification plans based on MTO requirements.
• Ensure timely procurement of materials required for welding procedure qualification activities.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction teams for qualification readiness.
• Plan and manage welding consumables selection and procurement based on project specifications.

Welding Procedure Development & Approval

• Develop, qualify, and maintain Welding Procedure Qualifications (PQRs) and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs).
• Ensure compliance with international codes and standards including ASME, API, AWS, and ISO 15614.
• Review and approve welding documentation submitted by contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Manage welder qualification and certification programs, including renewals and re-qualifications.

Welding Inspection & Quality Assurance

• Monitor welding activities and conduct inspections to ensure compliance with approved procedures and project requirements.
• Coordinate NDT activities including UT, RT, PT, and MT.
• Investigate welding non-conformities and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Support quality audits, client inspections, and third-party reviews.

Team Leadership & Technical Support

• Provide technical leadership to welding personnel, supervisors, and inspectors.
• Conduct welding-related training sessions and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Monitor welder performance and ensure adherence to approved WPS requirements.
• Resolve complex welding and fabrication challenges across projects.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure welding activities comply with company HSE requirements and regulatory standards.
• Implement hot work safety requirements and fire prevention measures.
• Maintain compliance with ASME Section IX, API 1104, AWS, and applicable project specifications.

Reporting & Stakeholder Management

• Prepare detailed welding progress, productivity, and quality reports.
• Interface with project management, clients, consultants, vendors, and inspection authorities.
• Support project teams in mitigating welding-related risks and execution challenges.

WHAT WE’R LOOKING FOR

Education / Certifications / Licenses

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related discipline
• Certified International Welding Engineer (IWE) or equivalent certification (Mandatory)

Experience

• Minimum 15 years of experience in Welding Engineering, Inspection, and Quality Control within the Oil & Gas EPC industry
• Extensive experience in: Piping & Pipeline Projects, Storage Tanks, Structural Steel Fabrication, Offshore & Onshore Facilities, Industrial Plant Construction
• Experience managing welding qualifications, procedure development, and contractor/subcontractor compliance

Skills and Competencies

• Strong knowledge of: ASME Section IX, API 1104, AWS Codes, ISO 15614, NDT Methods (UT, RT, PT, MT)
• ADNOC Approval as Senior/Lead Welding Engineer is a strong advantage
