Job summary

SteerAI, an autonomous mobility technology company, seeks a Lead Robotics Engineer to own and grow localization strategy across the autonomy stack. You will mentor engineers, drive hiring, and stay deeply hands-on with the localization engine, spanning LiDAR, GNSS/INS, vision, and sensor fusion for varied environments.

Qualifications

• Optimization: differentiable optimization is essential for accurate localization.
• State Estimation: expertise in non-linear optimization and Bayesian filtering.
• 3D geometry: proficiency with SE3/SO3 and coordinate transformations.
• Map-based localization: experience with vectorized HD maps and matching.
• Software engineering: strong C++ and Python, ROS 2, performance-focused.

Responsibilities

• Lead the localization stack roadmap across sensor fusion and mapping.
• Design and implement state estimation pipelines (EKF/UKF) fusing IMU, GNSS/INS, LiDAR, and vision.
• Develop LiDAR-based localization and place-recognition methods for GNSS-denied environments.
• Implement graph-based optimization (Ceres, g2o, GTSAM) for loop closure and fusion.
• Develop VIO/visual-inertial localization when appropriate, not as sole solution.
• Own hiring and technical interviews for the localization team.
• Collaborate with perception, navigation, and controls teams.
• Stay current with localization research and evaluate practical value.
