Job description

Wood is recruiting for a Lead Process Engineer to join its UAE Business Unit focusing on managing the Process engineering and design team for a Major Onshore Project in Iraq. This full‑time office‑based role is located in Sharjah, UAE.

About the Project

Wood has been awarded a general engineering contract to support an international client operator to deliver a portfolio of onshore capital projects in Iraq. Projects include greenfield and brownfield developments and integration of low‑carbon solutions to support the client’s energy transition.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the process engineering and design team.
  • Single point responsibility for all process engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with engineering codes, standards and client policies.
  • Ensure project delivery meets asset operational needs and adheres to schedule.
  • Provide technical guidance on process engineering queries.
  • Participate in all project safety and design reviews.
  • Collaborate with client Engineering, Operations and Maintenance staff for consistent project completion.
  • Promote safe behaviour at all times.
Principal Responsibilities
  • Provide sound technical advice and solutions to technical problems.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines throughout design, construction, pre‑commissioning and start‑up.
  • Support site activities such as material inspection and FAT.
  • Assist in coordinating all activities related to process systems.
  • Identify progress or quality concerns and recommend corrective actions.
  • Attend weekly progress meetings and prepare status reports.
Qualifications
  • MSc / BSc in Chemical Engineering.
  • Membership of a recognised professional institute (preferred).
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Minimum 6 years experience in an engineering design company.
  • At least 12 months experience in site‑based project work involving field engineering, construction, commissioning, operations or maintenance.
  • Experience working with multi‑national and multi‑cultural project teams (strongly preferred).
  • Previous experience in the Middle East an advantage.
  • Experience in flare networks, produced water systems, firewater systems and prior exposure to refinery environments is a strong advantage.
