KBR, Inc. is seeking a Lead Piping Engineer for an offshore project based in Abu Dhabi, UAE, with eventual relocation to Spain.

The role leads piping design, stress analysis, material & corrosion management, and brownfield modifications across FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and startup stages. Candidates should have 20–25 years in piping engineering within oil & gas, offshore brownfield EPC exposure, and mastery of offshore water injection and utility

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Master's Degree is an advantage.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead piping design and engineering activities for offshore water injection systems.
  • Develop and review piping specifications, material classes, datasheets, and design philosophies.
  • Review and approve piping layouts, GA drawings, isometrics, and 3D models.
  • Ensure piping systems are designed for operability, maintainability, safety, and constructability.
  • Perform piping routing studies considering space constraints and brownfield integration requirements.
  • Support line sizing, pressure drop calculations, and hydraulic assessments.
  • Review piping stress analyses and flexibility studies.
  • Coordinate with stress engineers to resolve high-stress and support-related issues.
  • Review critical line support arrangements and expansion solutions.
  • Define piping material specifications suitable for seawater, treated water, and utility systems.
  • Assess corrosion risks and mitigation measures.
  • Ensure material selection complies with process requirements and design life expectations.
  • Review corrosion allowance requirements and protective coating specifications.
  • Conduct offshore site surveys and brownfield assessments.
  • Develop tie-in strategies and piping modification plans.
  • Support shutdown planning and SIMOPS activities.
  • Evaluate existing facilities and identify integration challenges for new water injection systems.
  • Ensure minimum impact on ongoing production operations during project execution.
  • Coordinate with Process, Mechanical, Structural, Instrumentation, Electrical, and Operations teams.
  • Resolve interdisciplinary design clashes and interface issues.
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability workshops, and model reviews.
  • Provide technical guidance to design and drafting teams.
  • Prepare material requisitions and technical specifications.
  • Support bid evaluations and vendor selection processes.
  • Review vendor package piping interfaces and integration requirements.
  • Resolve technical queries related to piping materials and fabrication.
  • Provide engineering support during fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Review construction work packs and method statements.
  • Support hydrotesting, flushing, cleaning, and mechanical completion activities.
  • Resolve field engineering queries and NCRs.
  • Verify system readiness for commissioning and startup.
  • Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, Constructability, SIMOPS, and Risk Assessment studies.
  • Ensure compliance with project HSE requirements and company standards.
  • Support MOC processes.
  • Promote safe design principles and asset integrity throughout the project lifecycle.

Lead Piping Engineer – Offshore Project

KBR Abu Dhabi PMC Team is currently looking to fill a position of Lead Piping Engineer for an Offshore Project to be based in UAE ( Abu Dhabi) as soon as the administrative processes are completed, will then relocate to Spain Office and then return to Abu Dhabi.

Job Purpose

The Lead Piping Engineer is responsible for leading piping engineering activities for offshore facilities, ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective design, installation, and integration of piping systems within existing offshore infrastructure. The role supports FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and brownfield modification activities while ensuring compliance with project specifications, ADNOC requirements, and international standards.

Key Responsibilities

Piping Engineering & Design

  • Lead piping design and engineering activities for offshore water injection systems.
  • Develop and review piping specifications, material classes, datasheets, and design philosophies.
  • Review and approve piping layouts, General Arrangement (GA) drawings, isometrics, and 3D models.
  • Ensure piping systems are designed for operability, maintainability, safety, and constructability.
  • Perform piping routing studies considering space constraints and brownfield integration requirements.
  • Support line sizing, pressure drop calculations, and hydraulic assessments.

Stress Analysis & Flexibility

  • Review piping stress analyses and flexibility studies.
  • Ensure piping systems comply with code requirements for thermal expansion, vibration, and operational loads.
  • Coordinate with stress engineers to resolve high-stress and support-related issues.
  • Review critical line support arrangements and expansion solutions.

Material & Corrosion Management

  • Define piping material specifications suitable for seawater, treated water, and utility systems.
  • Assess corrosion risks and recommend mitigation measures.
  • Ensure material selection complies with process requirements and design life expectations.
  • Review corrosion allowance requirements and protective coating specifications.

Brownfield & Offshore Modifications

  • Conduct offshore site surveys and brownfield assessments.
  • Develop tie-in strategies and piping modification plans.
  • Support shutdown planning and SIMOPS activities.
  • Evaluate existing facilities and identify integration challenges for new water injection systems.
  • Ensure minimum impact on ongoing production operations during project execution.

Multidisciplinary Coordination

  • Coordinate with Process, Mechanical, Structural, Instrumentation, Electrical, and Operations teams.
  • Resolve interdisciplinary design clashes and interface issues.
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability workshops, and model reviews.
  • Provide technical guidance to design and drafting teams.

Procurement & Vendor Support

  • Prepare material requisitions and technical specifications.
  • Support bid evaluations and vendor selection processes.
  • Review vendor package piping interfaces and integration requirements.
  • Resolve technical queries related to piping materials and fabrication.

Construction & Commissioning Support

  • Provide engineering support during fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Review construction work packs and method statements.
  • Support hydrotesting, flushing, cleaning, and mechanical completion activities.
  • Resolve field engineering queries and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
  • Verify system readiness for commissioning and startup.

HSE & Quality Compliance

  • Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, Constructability, SIMOPS, and Risk Assessment studies.
  • Ensure compliance with project HSE requirements and company standards.
  • Support Management of Change (MOC) processes.
  • Promote safe design principles and asset integrity throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline.
  • Master's Degree is an advantage.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional certification preferred.

Experience

  • 20-25 years of piping engineering experience within the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in offshore brownfield EPC projects.
  • Strong experience in offshore water injection, produced water, utilities, and process piping systems.
  • Proven involvement in FEED, Detailed Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning, and Startup phases.
  • ADNOC Offshore and Middle East project experience highly preferred.
  • Experience with offshore islands, platforms, and shutdown/tie-in projects is desirable.
