Job Description
Wood is recruiting for a Lead Piping Engineer to join its UAE Business Unit focusing on overseeing and coordinating all piping engineering activities for a Major Onshore Brownfield Project in Sharjah, UAE. This role is a full-time office-based position in Sharjah, UAE.
Our Clients and Projects
Wood has been awarded a general engineering contract to support an International Client operator to deliver a portfolio of onshore capital projects by providing engineering and project management services (including EPC contract management). Projects include both greenfield and brownfield modification projects and the integration of low‑carbon solutions to support the client’s energy transition and emissions reduction goals.

Key Objectives
- Select appropriate materials based on process conditions, corrosion considerations, and design codes
- Review and approve piping design deliverables including line lists, MTOs, and valve specifications
- Ensure compliance with ASME, ASTM, API, and other relevant codes and standards
- Coordinate with procurement and vendors for technical evaluation of piping materials
- Review vendor documents for piping components, valves, gaskets, and specialty items
- Manage material substitution requests and ensure technical equivalency
- Support warehouse and construction teams in resolving material‑related issues
- Lead a team of piping engineers and designers across multiple projects
- Interface with clients, project managers, and other discipline lead engineers to align engineering deliverables
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
- Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, and constructability assessments
- Ensure all piping materials meet project quality standards and specifications
- Maintain documentation and traceability for all critical piping components
- Provide input and guidance on piping layout design to ensure optimal routing, accessibility, and maintainability
- Review and approve layout drawings including plot plans, equipment layouts, and piping isometrics
- Review 3D models, isometrics, and general arrangement drawings
- Familiar with 3D model software such as E3D, S3D, Navis Manage
- Coordinate with stress engineers to ensure piping systems meet flexibility and support requirements
- Oversee stress analysis reports and ensure compliance with design criteria and safety standards
PMC Role Responsibilities
- Act as the primary technical liaison between the client and EPC contractors for piping engineering matters
- Review and approve EPC contractor deliverables related to piping engineering
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and client standards
- Interface with client representatives to align engineering execution with project goals
- Monitor progress and quality of piping design, layout, and stress analysis activities
- Facilitate technical reviews, audits, and interdisciplinary coordination meetings
- Provide guidance and resolution for technical issues raised during design and construction phases
- Support procurement and construction teams by validating material selections and stress‑critical components
Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.Sc./B.Eng./M.Sc.)
- Minimum of 15 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry
- Minimum of 6 years proven capability in an engineering design company
- At least 12 months experience of site‑based project work involving field engineering, construction, commissioning, operations, or maintenance
- Familiar with the typical software packages used for piping design and selection
- Experience working with multi‑national and multi‑cultural project teams is strongly preferred
- Previous experience of working in the Middle East would be an advantage
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of piping design and analysis
- Thorough awareness of relevant international codes and standards
- Familiarity with exotic materials such as Duplex, Inconel, and Hastelloy
- Strong communication and leadership skills in a client‑facing environment
