Wood is recruiting for a Lead Mechanical Rotating Engineer to join our UAE business unit focusing on both Greenfield and Brownfield modification projects and integrating low‑carbon solutions to support our client’s energy transition and emissions reduction goals. This role is a full‑time on‑site position in Sharjah, UAE with a travel requirement.

The role

As Lead Mechanical Rotating Engineer, you will lead all mechanical equipment engineering (static and rotating equipment) design deliverables, ensuring compliance with applicable engineering codes, standards and client policies. You will coordinate the mechanical team, manage schedules, budgets, and quality, and act as the technical liaison with licensors, vendors and OEMs.

Responsibilities
  • Be single‑point responsibility for all mechanical equipment engineering design deliverables
  • Provide input to Technical Work Practices (TWP’s) and Standards
  • Coordinate the mechanical team and report to the Project or Engineering Manager on project matters
  • Support planning, scheduling and execution of discipline activities, including man‑hour estimating and bid/tender preparation
  • Manage discipline work to the required schedule and manpower allocation, oversee discipline personnel, approve timesheets and holiday/Ot approvals as delegated
  • Manage and report progress of all mechanical engineering and design budgets, including weekly and cumulative productivity metrics
  • Identify areas of concern regarding progress or quality and recommend corrective actions
  • Attend weekly internal and external progress meetings and generate status reports for the Engineering/Project Manager
  • Ensure all team members are competency assessed and maintain competency per company and client requirements
  • Define minimum acceptance criteria and undertake pre‑qualification of third parties
  • Liaise with licensors, equipment vendors and OEMs to conclude deliverables and provide third‑party budget costs for stage‑gate estimates
  • Define scope of work for third‑party subcontracts
  • Prepare Tender Bid evaluations and assess bids
  • Review vendor documents on detailed engineering projects
  • Provide input to EPC scope of work and EPC Tender Package for the EXECUTE stage
  • Coordinate with other disciplines throughout design, construction, pre‑commissioning and startup stages to avoid conflicts
  • Provide technical support to site for material inspection and Factory Acceptance Testing
  • Ensure compliance with management of change processes both technical and financial
  • Provide direction and guidance on technical queries and raise EQ’s / deviations as appropriate
  • Participate in all project safety and design reviews as necessary
  • Ensure work is completed without compromise to quality and delivered according to the project schedule
  • Liaise with the client’s Engineering, Operations and Maintenance staff to maintain consistent approach and keep the project within technical scope
  • Take ownership for risk identification, assessment, mitigation, monitoring and close‑out for the discipline
  • Promote safe behaviour at all times
  • Provide sound technical advice and solutions to a range of technical problems within the discipline
  • Promote smarter ways of working and champion continuous improvement within the department
  • Ensure lessons learned are captured and shared
