To lead and manage the electrical design team, overseeing the technical quality and delivery of electrical engineering designs. The role provides direction, mentorship, and review across the department's design output, and coordinates with other engineering disciplines to ensure designs are compliant, accurate, and aligned with project and company requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical design team, providing technical direction, guidance, and mentorship to design engineers and drafters.
- Manage and oversee all technical design work within the electrical discipline, ensuring accuracy, quality, and timely delivery of design outputs.
- Plan, allocate, and monitor departmental workload, and actively participate in tasks related to the electrical department as required by management.
- Review and approve electrical design deliverables prior to issuance, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
- Develop and design electrical systems for a range of applications, ensuring compliance with project requirements, codes, and standards.
- Create detailed schematics, wiring diagrams, and layouts using computer-aided design (CAD) tools.
- Select appropriate electrical components, such as switches, transformers, cables, and control systems, based on project specifications and performance criteria.
- Ensure compatibility of selected components with overall system requirements.
- Design power distribution systems, considering factors like load calculations, voltage drop, and safety.
- Specify the installation and configuration of electrical equipment and systems.
- Develop control system designs, including the selection and programming of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and human-machine interfaces (HMIs).
- Integrate control systems with overall electrical designs.
- Conduct tests and simulations to verify the performance and reliability of electrical systems.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues during the design and implementation phases.
- Work closely with other engineering disciplines, such as mechanical and civil engineers, to integrate electrical systems into overall project designs.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, and clients to understand project requirements and constraints.
- Ensure that electrical designs comply with relevant safety standards, codes, and regulations.
- Stay informed about industry trends and updates related to electrical engineering.
- Create comprehensive documentation, including technical specifications, design reports, and manuals.
- Maintain accurate records of design changes, approvals, and project correspondence.
- Implementation of the Integrated Management System as distributed and applied to the department and the company as a whole.
- To perform other job/activities related to the assigned responsibility as required and deemed necessary by management.
Requirements
- 15+ years in electrical design.
- Mentoring and developing engineers and drafters.
- Leading technical reviews for all electrical designs.
- Planning and coordinating departmental tasks.
- Experience of 400kv 132kv 220kv substations.
