Laundry & Kitchen Equipment Technician – Duties & Responsibilities (Simplified)
In addition to the standard laundry duties, the technician will also be responsible for supporting all kitchen equipment. Key responsibilities include:
- Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs on all laundry machines (washers, dryers, ironers, hydro extractors, dry‑cleaning machines).
- Inspect belts, motors, pumps, valves, filters, steam traps, and repair or replace parts when required.
- Clean and check dryer exhausts and lint filters to ensure fire safety.
- Monitor chemical dosing pumps and maintain proper detergent and softener supply.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs and report all breakdowns promptly.
- Ensure proper ventilation, cleanliness, and safe operation in the laundry area.
- Check and maintain the water softener system and perform hardness testing.
Kitchen Equipment Responsibilities:
- Carry out preventive maintenance and minor repairs on kitchen equipment such as ovens, fryers, grills, chillers, freezers, dishwashers, hood systems, and food preparation machines.
- Inspect and clean burners, thermostats, heating elements, gas valves, fans, filters, and ensure proper ignition and temperature control.
- Check refrigeration systems for basic issues such as thermostat faults, door gasket problems, drainage blockages, and minor gas leak indications.
- Ensure exhaust hoods, grease filters, and duct access panels are clean and functioning properly.
- Support chefs and kitchen staff by responding quickly to equipment issues during operations.
- Report major equipment faults and assist external contractors during service visits.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in all kitchen technical areas.
- Do elementary painting and finishing of furniture and structure.
- Re‑issue and exchange worn‑out clothing.
- Ensure that no ironing or starching is done on unauthorized clothing.
- Ensure that the proper amount of cleaned clothing is returned to the delivering officer.
Skills
You should ideally be having a technical background with sound experiences in the use of industrial machinery. You should be able to work under policies and regulations and must be in good physical condition. A good command of English and the ability to find fault and rectify systems are essentials.
