Job description
Role Description

This position of Junior Engineer Fire and Life Safety (FLS) is to assist the Senior Engineer FLS in providing design and engineering designs and guidance on the subject expertise. The team's objective is to facilitate the provision of sufficient and inclusive fire safety across all our projects worldwide by perpetually acquiring knowledge advocating for and advancing evidence‑based fire safety design and science. You will report directly to the Senior Engineer FLS and will be required to offer technical assistance. This is a compelling chance to join a progressive and expanding multi‑disciplinary internal team with prospects to influence and propel team development.

Responsibilities
  • Proactively engaging with internal project teams to understand the need for support and provide adequate technical support.
  • Assist in review of architectural layouts in accordance with applicable fire & life safety codes (i.e; NFPA UAE Fire Code etc).
  • Assist in reviewing design information for example drawings presentations and specifications and providing fire safety comment and advice.
  • Assist in reviewing technical design information and contractors proposals for example design solutions product datasheet test and classification reports and providing fire safety comments and advice.
  • Generating issuing and distributing memorandums technical notes and presentations on critical fire safety issues which may impact projects or the wider organization.
  • Carrying out research into and having proactive oversight over the fire safety implications of new technologies materials approaches and regulation feeding back insights to applicable stakeholders in a clear manner and making any relevant recommendations.
  • Carrying out qualitative and/or quantitative risk assessments and presenting to stakeholders to enable informed decision‑making.
  • Sharing fire safety knowledge and providing basic fire safety training/education to the architects within Studio 360.
  • Assist in generating fire safety strategy reports on all building projects.
  • Assisting in the updating and maintaining of internal best practice guidance and documentation.
  • Assist in generating proposals as required for design or research services.
  • Carrying out fire safety and science research as required for multi‑organisational projects.
  • Keeping accurate and up‑to‑date FLS notes in the project tracker.
  • Managing your own workload tasks and time to hit relevant deadlines and meet stakeholder expectations.
  • Identifying personal and team training needs staying up to date with relevant knowledge and feeding this back to the Studio leadership.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • NFPA Certified is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of similar experience.
  • Thorough understanding of NFPA 101, NFPA 5000, UAE Fire Code and each of the relevant design standards such as NFPA etc.
  • Software proficiency in CAD, Bluebeam and other relevant FLS related software.
  • Chartered Engineer affiliated with a pertinent professional engineering institute.
