Job Title: Specialist Safety Engineer – Technical KBR Abu Dhabi PMC Team is currently seeking experienced professionals for the position listed below in support of a major Offshore Project. The role will be based at either the Client's Office or the Contractor's Office in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Job Purpose The Specialist Technical Safety Engineer will provide specialist Technical Safety and Process Safety engineering expertise throughout the offshore project lifecycle. The role will focus on identifying, assessing and mitigating risks associated with engineering design, construction, commissioning, start-up and operations while ensuring compliance with ADNOC requirements, applicable international standards and project HSE objectives. The position will act as a technical advisor for process safety, risk management, HSE engineering studies and regulatory compliance, including support for brownfield modifications and offshore installation activities.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Safety & Process Safety

  • Provide specialist Technical Safety/HSE support during FEED, Detailed Engineering, Construction and Commissioning phases.
  • Ensure hazards are systematically identified, assessed and effectively mitigated throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review and verify process-safety design requirements and safety-critical elements.
  • Support implementation of Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements.
  • Review Loss Prevention philosophies and Process Safety engineering deliverables.
  • Develop/check technical-safety calculations, datasheets, technical notes, specifications, drawings and other discipline deliverables as required.
  • Coordinate Technical Safety requirements and interfaces with Process, Mechanical, Piping, Instrumentation, Electrical, Civil/Structural and other engineering disciplines.
Safety Studies & Risk Assessment
  • Lead, facilitate or participate in safety and risk workshops including:
    • HAZID – Hazard Identification
    • HAZOP – Hazard and Operability Study
    • SIL – Safety Integrity Level
    • LOPA – Layer of Protection Analysis
    • Bow-Tie Analysis
    • SIMOPS studies
    • ENVID studies
    • Risk Assessment workshops
    • Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), where applicable.
  • Ensure recommendations/findings from safety workshops are properly followed through.
  • Support review and closure of safety-study recommendations and risk-reduction measures.
  • Conduct/review risk assessments and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
Technical Safety Engineering
  • Hazardous Area Classification schedules and layouts.
  • Loss Prevention and Process Safety requirements.
  • Fire and Gas safety requirements.
  • Safety-critical elements and performance requirements.
  • Offshore escape, evacuation and emergency-response considerations.
  • Brownfield modifications and offshore installation safety.
  • Technical safety interfaces with other engineering disciplines.
HSE Compliance & Technical Assurance
  • Ensure Technical Safety activities comply with applicable ADNOC requirements, project requirements and international standards.
  • Provide technical guidance on HSE policies, procedures and standards.
  • Support technical and HSE assurance reviews during project execution.
  • Monitor critical risk controls and their effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with project engineering and contractor teams to ensure safety requirements are incorporated into engineering deliverables.
Qualification & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering – Mandatory
  • Minimum 17+ years of overall experience in the Oil & Gas industry
  • Minimum 5+ years of Offshore project experience – Mandatory
Preferred Experience
  • Strong experience in Technical Safety / Process Safety Engineering within Oil & Gas EPC/PMC projects.
  • Extensive experience in offshore oil & gas facilities.
  • Previous ADNOC Offshore project experience.
  • Strong experience across Concept, FEED, Detailed Engineering and EPC project stages.
  • Hands-on involvement in HAZID, HAZOP, SIL/LOPA, Bow-Tie, QRA, SIMOPS and other process-safety studies.
  • Experience with offshore brownfield modifications.
  • Strong understanding of international Technical Safety standards including API, NFPA and IEC.
  • Excellent multidisciplinary coordination and technical-review capabilities.
