A leading engineering company in Abu Dhabi is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Automation Engineer to lead design and execute engineering activities for onshore oil & gas projects. The role requires 10-15 years of relevant experience, including mandatory involvement in ADNOC projects. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in control systems, automation design, and integration, ensuring compliance with international standards. Immediate availability is preferred.

Job description

The Instrumentation & Automation Engineer will lead and execute instrumentation and automation engineering activities for onshore oil & gas projects during the Engineering Phase. The role requires strong expertise in process instrumentation, control systems, automation design, and integration with field and process systems, ensuring compliance with ADNOC standards, international codes, and project specifications.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the design, specification, and coordination of instrumentation and automation systems for onshore oil & gas facilities.
  • Develop, review, and approve instrumentation design deliverables, including P&IDs and loop diagrams, Instrument layouts and hook‑up drawings, Cable routing, termination, and wiring diagrams, Control system architecture and network diagrams.
  • Specify, review, and approve instruments, control valves, and automation equipment in line with project requirements.
  • Ensure integration of DCS, PLC, SCADA, and safety instrumented systems (SIS) with process systems.
  • Prepare instrument datasheets, I/O lists, and material take‑offs (MTOs).
  • Interface with process, mechanical, electrical, and civil disciplines to ensure design integration and clash‑free layouts.
  • Perform loop checking, signal validation, and instrumentation calculations.
  • Ensure compliance with ADNOC Engineering Standards (ADES/AGES) and relevant international standards (ISA, IEC, API, ANSI, ISO).
  • Participate in HAZOP, design reviews, and constructability reviews.
  • Mentor and guide junior instrumentation and automation engineers and designers.
  • Support procurement and vendor documentation review, ensuring all automation and instrumentation deliverables are technically compliant.
  • Maintain engineering documents and deliverables in accordance with EDMS/Document Control procedures.

  • Experience in brownfield modification projects and tie‑ins.
  • Familiarity with EDMS platforms (SmartPlant Foundation, Aconex, Documentum).
  • Knowledge of network architecture, fieldbus protocols (HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, PROFIBUS), and industrial cybersecurity considerations.
  • Ability to mentor and lead a small team of instrumentation and automation designers.
  • Experience with testing, loop checks, and FAT/SAT support in the engineering phase.
