Job summary

GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi is seeking a MYP/DP Librarian to lead the Secondary School library as an academic learning and research centre, supporting students and teachers across IB programmes.

The role focuses on information literacy, research skills, academic integrity, and independent learning, while collaborating with teachers and coordinators to align library resources with the curriculum.

Qualifications

• A recognised library, information-management, or teaching qualification is preferred.
• Experience in a secondary or international school and in academic libraries.
• Experience supporting IB MYP/DP students is strongly preferred.
• Experience using library-management systems and digital learning resources.
• Excellent written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Manage the daily operation and strategic development of the Secondary School library.
• Create a purposeful academic environment that supports research, study, collaboration, and independent learning.
• Teach research, information literacy, referencing, citation, and source evaluation skills.
• Support DP students with the Extended Essay, Internal Assessments, and other research-based assignments.
• Promote academic integrity and educate students about plagiarism, copyright, responsible use of AI, and ethical use of information.
• Collaborate with MYP and DP teachers to plan inquiry-based lessons and identify appropriate resources.
• Support the development of Approaches to Learning skills, particularly research, communication, and self-management.
• Provide individual and small-group research guidance to students.
• Develop and maintain a relevant collection of books, journals, databases, e-books, and other digital resources.
• Ensure that resources reflect the curriculum, student interests, cultural diversity, and the international nature of the school community.
• Manage library systems, cataloguing, circulation, subscriptions, purchasing, and stocktaking.
• Use library data and student feedback to evaluate engagement and inform future development.
• Promote reading for both academic development and personal enjoyment.
• Organise author visits, reading initiatives, research workshops, and academic events.
• Maintain an organised, welcoming, and appropriately supervised learning environment.
