Job summary

Universal American School is seeking a Head of Social Studies to join in January 2027, taking on Curriculum Leader duties for the Social Studies Department and shaping ongoing development of Social Studies at UAS.

The successful candidate will lead, inspire and drive curriculum development, assessment and departmental improvement, fostering collaboration and professional growth while upholding high standards of teaching, learning and student achievement in an international context.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in a related field plus a certified teaching qualification such as B.Ed/M.Ed PGCE/PGDE or equivalent
• Experience leading a successful Social Studies Department or held a 2ic position and looking for an opportunity to lead in an outstanding school
• A passion for consistently delivering outstanding lessons to their students
• The ability to share outstanding practice with colleagues
• The ability to work well in a team and with other colleagues
• The desire to develop and grow professionally
• A creative and enthusiastic approach both in and out of the classroom
• Excellent IT and interpersonal communication skills to work closely with students and parents
• Experience of teaching in a diverse, international school environment (desirable although not essential)
• The desire to work within a team of highly supportive and creative colleagues
