Charterhouse is working with a growing semiconductor and hardware innovations company who is looking to hire a Firmware Engineer to join their cutting‑edge AI infrastructure team. Our client is developing custom server hardware optimized for artificial intelligence and machine learning workloads. Their solutions enable scalable, high‑performance, and energy‑efficient solutions for global enterprises and research institutions.

About the role

In this role, the Firmware Engineer will be responsible for building the firmware foundation of next‑generation AI training accelerators. This includes developing embedded software to support secure boot, PCIe bring‑up, runtime management, and multi‑die coordination. The work will span across pre‑silicon platforms such as FPGA and QEMU and involve close collaboration with silicon architects, Linux driver developers, as well as system validation engineers.

About you

The successful candidate must have a minimum of five years of experience in embedded firmware development, with strong proficiency in C, C++, or Rust. The ideal candidate should have hands‑on experience with PCIe bring‑up and memory subsystems such as HBM or DDR, along with familiarity using debugging tools like JTAG and logic analyzers. Knowledge of secure boot processes, cryptographic signing, Linux driver interfaces, and architectures such as RISC‑V or ARM64 is highly valued. Additional experience with 400G Ethernet firmware, pre‑silicon development, and compliance with standards like PCIe 5.0, IEEE 802.3, UEFI, and ACPI would be a significant advantage.

A deep understanding of hardware‑software integration is essential, along with a focus on ensuring reliability, observability, and scalability within data center environments. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a cross‑functional engineering team are essential for this role.
