Job Summary:
The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading engineering, design review, site execution, and commissioning of electrical systems for civil/building construction projects. The role provides technical leadership in the preparation and review of electrical drawings, specifications, and BOQs, coordinates with multidisciplinary teams, supervises site activities, and ensures compliance with project requirements, applicable standards, and HSE regulations throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and review electrical engineering deliverables including general arrangement drawings, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, substation layouts, cable routing and trench layouts, cable schedules, interconnection drawings, cable tray layouts, lighting calculations, MCT sizing, and earthing and lightning protection systems.
- Prepare, review, and approve technical documents such as method statements, specifications, termination drawings, bills of materials, and junction schedules.
- Provide technical leadership in the selection, sizing, and specification of electrical equipment including MV/LV switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS systems, motors, lighting fixtures, cables, earthing, and lightning protection systems.
- Perform and review electrical load calculations, short-circuit studies, and coordination studies as required by the project.
- Coordinate with Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Instrumentation, and other disciplines to ensure proper integration of electrical systems within civil works.
- Lead the preparation, review, and approval of shop drawings and as-built drawings, ensuring compliance with approved designs and client requirements.
- Identify scope variations, technical risks, and design constraints, and lead technical discussions and resolutions with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Provide site leadership during construction, installation, testing, and commissioning activities to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Review and approve material take-offs (MTO) and bills of quantities (BOQ) based on approved drawings and project scope.
- Monitor site execution to ensure availability of materials, effective resource deployment, and adherence to project schedules.
- Oversee testing and commissioning of electrical systems including substations and field-installed equipment.
- Ensure effective document control, review, and distribution of electrical engineering documents.
- Lead QA/QC activities including inspections, audits, and coordination with clients, contractors, and third-party inspectors.
- Ensure compliance with HSE requirements and promote safe working practices across all electrical activities.
- Mentor junior engineers and support technical development within the electrical engineering team.
Required Qualifications & Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree (BE/B.Tech) in Electrical Engineering.
- 10+ years experience within civil/building construction, preferable high-rise building projects.
- Strong technical knowledge of MV/LV electrical systems including switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS systems, cables, motors, and associated equipment.
- Proven experience in electrical system design, installation, testing, and commissioning for large-scale projects.
- Strong understanding of single-line diagrams, substation layouts, cable routing and trenching, lighting systems, earthing, and lightning protection.
- Familiarity with applicable international electrical codes, standards, and authority requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary coordination and manage interfaces effectively.
- Strong experience in QA/QC processes, technical reviews, and client approvals.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and deliver projects within tight deadlines.
