Job summary

Swissotel Al Murooj Dubai is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Officer to lead hotel-wide EHS programs, ensuring highest safety standards and regulatory compliance.

You will plan, monitor, and implement EHS initiatives, conduct audits and inspections, and drive training to promote a strong safety culture across all departments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related discipline.
  • Minimum one year of professional EHS Officer experience.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct inspections, audits, and investigations with attention to detail.
  • Proven capability to develop and implement EHS programs and initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor Health, Safety and Environmental activities across the hotel.
  • Recommend improvements in methods, systems, procedures, and safety practices to enhance operational efficiency and workplace safety.
  • Develop and implement annual EHS plans, initiatives, inspections, audits, and awareness programs.
  • Coordinate EHS activities with all departments and ensure timely completion of assigned action plans.
  • Identify potential workplace hazards and establish appropriate preventive and corrective measures.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections to identify hazards, unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and areas requiring corrective action.
  • Ensure that all health, safety, and environmental activities are carried out to the highest professional standards.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly EHS checklists and reports as required.
  • Monitor compliance with hotel policies, procedures, local legislation, and applicable Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.
  • Provide guidance, support, and advice to associates and management on Health, Safety and Environmental matters.
  • Conduct safety briefings, toolbox talks, awareness sessions, and EHS campaigns for associates.
  • Be willing to train and instruct associates by sharing relevant knowledge, skills, and safe working practices.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture throughout the hotel by leading by example.
  • Monitor housekeeping standards and ensure that hazards are promptly identified and rectified.
  • Ensure proper use, availability, inspection, and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Coordinate the selection and appropriate use of PPE and support fit-testing requirements where applicable.
  • Review accident and incident reports, participate in investigations, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain accurate records and statistics related to accidents, incidents, near misses, inspections, audits, and other EHS activities.
  • Analyze EHS statistics and trends and recommend appropriate measures for continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate internal and external Health, Safety and Environmental training programs for associates.
  • Conduct monthly safety and environmental audits and communicate findings to the concerned departments and management.
  • Follow up on audit findings and ensure that corrective actions are completed within the required timelines.
  • Support emergency preparedness activities, drills, and response procedures as required.
  • Monitor workplace safety and ergonomic conditions, including workstation design, equipment, and operational processes.
  • Ensure that defective equipment, unsafe conditions, and potential hazards are immediately reported and appropriately addressed.
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the hotel's Health, Safety and Environmental management systems.
  • Assist in monitoring environmental practices, including waste management, energy conservation, chemical handling, and other environmental initiatives.
  • Monitor and coordinate the implementation of the hotel's drug testing policy and procedures, where applicable.
  • Coordinate and attend EHS meetings, committees, inspections, and related activities and ensure agreed actions are followed up.
  • Establish, review, and maintain written EHS standards, policies, procedures, risk assessments, and guidelines.
  • Ensure that all EHS documentation, records, certificates, permits, and reports are properly maintained and updated.
  • Encourage associates to report hazards, near misses, and unsafe practices and promote proactive safety reporting.
  • Analyze problems and formulate practical solutions to ensure work is completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as assigned by the management.

Job Description

  • Attend departmental and EHS meetings, briefings, and training sessions as scheduled.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling EHS-related matters.
  • Demonstrate full cooperation and respect towards colleagues, management, and other departments.
  • Follow the hotel's grooming standards and maintain a professional, friendly, and positive disposition at all times.
  • Maintain good product knowledge and awareness of daily hotel activities where relevant to EHS responsibilities.
  • Ensure continuous professional development by attending relevant training and maintaining awareness of current EHS practices and requirements.

Qualifications

**Required Qualifications:**

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
  • Minimum one year of professional experience in an Environmental Health and Safety Officer role or equivalent position
  • Proficiency in computer applications and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to conduct inspections, audits, and investigations with attention to detail
  • Proven capability to develop and implement EHS programs and initiatives

**Preferred Qualifications:**

  • Professional certification in Occupational Health and Safety (OHSAS, NEBOSH, or equivalent)
  • Experience in the hospitality or hotel industry
  • Advanced proficiency in EHS management systems and audit procedures
  • Experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis
