Job summary

GEMS World Academy Dubai is seeking an experienced Economics teacher to join the Business & Economics department. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in teaching Secondary Economics, preferably within an IB curriculum, and a solid understanding of the IB DP framework.

You will contribute to delivering high-quality instruction, align with the Learner Profile, and support diverse international learners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Education or equivalent with Economics qualification.
• IB DP knowledge or experience preferred for DP alignment.
• Minimum of 3 years teaching Secondary Economics, ideally in an IB environment.
• Strong understanding of IB DP framework and Approaches to Teaching.
• Available to start immediately.

Responsibilities

• Teach IB Economics to Secondary students with engaging, inquiry-based lessons.
• Support student outcomes and progress through data-informed instruction.
• Collaborate with the IB DP team to ensure curriculum alignment and assessment.
• Provide ongoing feedback and professional development opportunities.

Skills

The ideal candidate should have a strong track record in effective teaching and helping students succeed. While experience in teaching the IB Middle Years Programmes & Diploma Programmes is preferred, outstanding teachers from any curriculum background are encouraged to apply. Alignment with the IB philosophy and commitment to the Learner Profile values are crucial. A genuine passion for working in a non-selective and culturally diverse community is also a key requirement. Additionally, the candidate should possess:

  A Bachelor of Education degree, or an initial degree plus a relevant teaching qualification such as a PGCE, PGDE or equivalent specialism in Economics

  Advanced qualifications are preferred but not essential

  A minimum of 3 years experience teaching Secondary Economics, ideally within an IB curriculum school, however, this is not mandatory
