Job description
Main responsibilities
  • Accountable for all personnel at the wellsite and main camp.
  • Safety leader at the wellsite.
  • Manage all operations in a manner that ensures the well programmes are carried out in safe and cost effective manner, ensuring the health and safety of all personnel, protection of the environment and SNOC’s business objectives are met.
  • Responsible for the onsite implementation of all SNOC safety policies and programs.
  • Investigate, follow up and close out all incidents relating to rig site personnel, equipment, and procedures.
  • Assist in HSE field audits, investigations, or initiatives.
  • Work in collaboration with drilling contractor and all service companies/contractors to ensure all required equipment and tools are available at the wellsite or is available for call out.
  • Maintain honest and timely communication with the Senior Drilling Supervisor and Drilling Superintendent.
  • Champion performance and continuous improvement efforts to ensure delivery of well program objectives.
  • Ensuring that timely and accurate OpenWells reports are submitted daily.
  • Ensure that all NPT is captured in OpenWells and SNOC NPT reports.
  • Prepare a 7 day and 14 day Lookahead based on the current operations and upcoming operation.
  • Ensure that SNOC Well Control Standards are met in all respects including equipment configuration, testing and crew response.
  • Assure that rig personnel and service company/contractor personnel comply with SNOC established safety standards and procedures.
  • Review and recommend optimization of drilling programs/procedures.
  • Create and issue detailed and precise Work Instructions based on the well programme or ongoing activities.
  • Ensure that all contractor and service company documentation such as BHA’s, Pipe Tally’s, Casing Tally’s, Liner Tally’s etc. are checked and verified as correct.
  • Manage rig site operations to deliver best in class program objectives.
  • Assist in preparation and/or review of drilling documentation/manuals.
  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced Drilling Supervisors and Wellsite Drilling Engineers.
  • Participation in emergency preparedness activities.
  • Ensure that all safety drill and/or exercises are carried out as per the operational/HSE plan and that all details are recorded by the contractor HSE personnel and that lessons learned are captured and implemented.
  • Ensure that all Pre-Tour Safety Meetings are properly conducted and documented.
  • Make recommendations on alternative methods or equipment when unusual situations are encountered.
  • Coordinate deliveries of materials to the well to ensure it is available when required.
  • Ensure the contractors meet all requirements of their contract.
  • Work with Drilling and Workover engineers to see that modern drilling practices are followed.
  • Check contractor’s daily tour/daily drilling reports, final approval must be by Senior Drilling Supervisor.
  • Check the contractor’s unpriced invoices ensuring that it is accurate, final approval must be by Senior Drilling Supervisor.
  • Check service company reports, final approval must be by Senior Drilling Supervisor.
  • Check service company unpriced invoices ensuring that they are accurate, final approval must be by Senior Drilling Supervisor.
  • Ensure that contractor’s rigs and equipment are properly maintained to avoid downtime.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as directed by the Senior Drilling Supervisor or Drilling Superintendent.
Qualification/Experience
  • Passion for HSE, including desire to assist training of personnel on the rig, and to encourage a natural safety culture, by leading as an example and interfacing with all personnel partaking in rig activities.
  • BSc. Engineering Degree preferred, but not essential based on experience.
  • Current IWCF Certified, Level 4 Surface as a minimum.
  • Experienced professional with a proven management track record including at least 10 years of experience in drilling and workover operations, of which 5 years in a Night Drilling Supervisory role.
  • Knowledgeable on specific drilling operations/challenges (i.e. slow ROP, stuck pipe, stuck casing, cementing, completions, etc.) including MPD operations.
  • Excellent understanding of well control principles.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English.
  • Leadership skills in a diverse geographic and cultural environment.
  • Knowledge of loss circulation and its procedures.
  • Experience with MPD operations and knowledge of MPD procedures.
  • Experience with highly tectonically stressed wells.
  • Experience with both SOBM and WBM and fluid management.
  • Experience with high temperature wells of 320 deg F or higher.
  • Experience with slim well designs, underreaming and flush casings.
  • Experience in workovers in an aged field.
  • Experience with H2S environments.
  • Bit Dull Grading.
  • Directional Drilling utilising RSS and Turbines.
  • Underreaming with and without directional assemblies.
  • Casing/Liner running conventionally and/or with CRT tools and Cementing.
  • Fishing and Casing Exits.
  • Ability to plan, problem solve, organise, direct and control.
