Job summary

Zayed National Museum in Abu Dhabi seeks a Digital Learning Lead to drive the strategy and delivery of digital learning programs for diverse audiences, across online and on-site platforms.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of English-language digital learning materials engaging online and on-site audiences.
  • Develop and oversee the digital content programme across UAE and beyond.

Zayed National Museum is located at the heart of Saadiyat Cultural District Abu Dhabi. Job Purposes:
  • Lead the delivery of English-language digital learning materials about Zayed National Museum’s (ZNM) permanent collections and temporary exhibitions that engage online and on-site audiences in museum narratives around the legacy of Sheikh Zayed and the history and culture of the UAE.
  • Develop and oversee ZNM’s strategic digital content programme engaging diverse audiences across UAE and beyond, incorporating current digital trends and innovative approaches and including website editorial, interactives, online learning platforms, digital exhibitions, immersive technology, and more, for the general public, schools, families and life-long learners.
Responsibilities:
  • Research, design, write, and evaluate public-facing digital interpretation materials for a variety of platforms and contexts, including but not limited to: editorial content; online learning resources; digital multimedia guides; digital interactives; mobile apps; audio-visual media; virtual and augmented reality; and more.
  • Develop high quality, innovative content and narrative storytelling approaches that incorporate current digital trends meeting the museum’s mission and vision.
  • Apply content design methodologies to enhance and expand the editorial programme on ZNM’s owned and partner channels.
  • Work in parallel with subject matter experts to research, develop, deliver and oversee the production of inclusive bilingual public-facing digital interpretation materials.
  • Work with the Digital Learning Section Head to develop and implement the Digital Learning Strategy and 5-Year Plan ensuring alignment with wider organisational goals and the Learning & Public Engagement business plan.
  • Drive the effective use of emerging technologies (AI, AR, VR, XR) to create meaningful, accessible, and engaging digital narratives that connect audiences with museum content, history, and heritage.
  • Stay abreast of digital trends and best practices within the cultural sector to ensure the museum remains at the forefront of digital interpretation and engagement, benchmarked against global standards.
  • Develop and maintain digital editorial policies, style guides and controls to ensure compliance with quality standards and museum strategy, procedures and requirements.
  • Write scripts for audio, video guides and tours for use by visitors inside the museum.
  • Lead the recruitment of permanent and freelance staff to support the delivery of the Digital Learning strategy and meet KPIs.
  • Manage existing permanent and freelance staff including work assignment, performance management, mentoring & coaching, career development guidance, setting objectives and KPIs.
  • Prepare and manage the budget for all unit initiatives and programmes including managing the procurement, purchasing and sourcing for the provision of materials and equipment.
  • Work closely with product manager and other senior staff to deliver engaging digital experiences.
  • Oversee content planning, production and quality assurance produced in-house and by agency suppliers.
  • Ensure parallel levels of quality, information, and messaging between Arabic and English media.
  • Foster collaboration with educators, curators, designers, internal teams, and external partners to co-create and evaluate innovative digital content and storytelling experiences.
  • Mentor and train staff across departments, promoting digital literacy, good digital practices, and a culture of ideation and inclusion.
  • Recommend and manage the adoption of best practice content management procedures for efficient cross-departmental workflows.
  • Represent the Digital Learning Section Head and core values of the department.
Audience Engagement & Measurement
  • Maximise reach and impact by tailoring digital content and storytelling approaches to engage diverse audiences, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for People of Determination, the elderly, and un-served or underserved communities and audiences.
  • Use digital analytics to measure impact, inform strategy, increase audience engagement and retention.
  • Engage in user testing and feedback gathering, including online surveys and in-person focus groups, to inform enhancements and development of ZNM’s digital content.
Required Experience and qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in museums, cultural institutions, or similar with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Strong background in digital content strategy for a wide variety of audiences, using a wide variety of media.
  • Proven experience using agile project methodologies and human-centered design and development frameworks (e.g. Design Thinking).
  • Proven experience working with interpretive content for inclusive audiences within a cultural institution in a range of formats.
  • Experience with web technologies, CMS and other online publication techniques.
  • Experience managing budgets, tenders, and contracts and developing learning resources for online audiences.
  • Experience working with underrepresented audiences, including People of Determination in digital environments.
  • Experience working with museum professionals and the unique challenges and opportunities within cultural organisations.
