A leading electrical engineering firm seeks a Design Senior Engineer to lead the design and development of substation electrical systems. The ideal candidate will have 5–7 years of substation design engineering experience and a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering. Responsibilities include design oversight, compliance with standards, and coordination with clients. The position is based in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Design Senior Engineer – Lead the design and development of substation electrical systems, including single line diagrams (SLDs), general arrangements, protection and control schematics, earthing, lighting, and auxiliary systems.
Review and approve detailed design deliverables prepared by junior engineers and external design consultants.
Perform design calculations for equipment sizing, cable selection, voltage drop, short circuit, and load flow analysis using software such as ETAP, DIgSILENT, or CYME.
Ensure full compliance of designs with IEC, IEEE, and local authority standards (e.g., DEWA, TRANSCO, ADDC, or TAQA).
Evaluate technical alternatives and provide optimal engineering solutions to meet client and project requirements.
Coordinate with clients, consultants, and internal project teams to resolve design-related queries and technical issues.
Support procurement and construction teams by providing technical evaluations, clarifications, and review of vendor documents.
Ensure that all substation design packages are delivered on time and in accordance with project milestones. Lead technical audits and risk assessments related to substation electrical designs.
Validate vendor and manufacturer drawings to ensure conformity with technical specifications and interface requirements. Provide technical support during the installation, testing, and commissioning phases of substation projects.
Review as-built drawings and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
Contribute to project close-out reports and lessons learned documentation.
