Role Context

The Design and Technology Teacher – Textiles will guide students through the full creative process, from research and concept development to material selection, construction, testing, evaluation, and refinement. The teacher will provide a safe and stimulating learning environment where students can explore textile techniques, experiment with ideas, and produce high‑quality practical outcomes. The role combines specialist subject teaching with assessment, data‑informed planning, behaviour management, parent communication, curriculum collaboration, and extracurricular involvement. Through high expectations and inclusive instruction, the teacher will support academic progress while encouraging creativity, resilience, craftsmanship, and independent problem‑solving.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver Design and Technology lessons with a specialist focus on textiles.
• Teach in accordance with English National Curriculum requirements and agreed school standards.
• Guide students through research, design briefs, idea development, prototyping, production, testing, and evaluation.
• Introduce textile processes such as pattern development, fabric construction, surface decoration, stitching, and finishing.
• Demonstrate the safe and effective use of sewing machines, hand tools, textiles equipment, and classroom resources.
• Develop students’ understanding of fabrics, fibres, sustainability, manufacturing methods, and responsible material selection.
• Create practical projects that encourage creativity, technical accuracy, design thinking, and independent decision‑making.
• Prepare differentiated lessons for students across a broad range of attainment levels and learning needs.
• Maintain an orderly and inspiring classroom with suitable resources, displays, samples, and practical work areas.
• Establish safe working routines and ensure students follow workshop and equipment procedures.
• Take responsibility for the progress, achievement, and learning experience of assigned classes.
• Assess practical work, design portfolios, written tasks, and student development in line with school requirements.
• Record progress using Target Tracker and other approved assessment systems.
• Use assessment evidence to refine lesson planning, improve provision, and arrange targeted intervention.
• Provide students with clear feedback on creativity, technical execution, evaluation, and areas for improvement.
• Communicate progress, achievements, and wellbeing information to parents and carers during conferences and other meetings.
• Work alongside teachers, technicians, curriculum leaders, and support staff to strengthen subject delivery.
• Cooperate with speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, educational psychologists, and other professionals when required.
• Embed Mamoura British Academy Learner, Teacher, and Values DNA across lessons and classroom routines.
• Follow the school’s behaviour policy and apply expectations consistently.
• Build respectful relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional authority.
• Model the positive conduct, attitudes, and work habits expected throughout the academy.
• Participate in curriculum action groups supporting planning, assessment, resources, exhibitions, and special events.
• Record and communicate behaviour, welfare, or safeguarding concerns through CPOMS and approved school procedures.
• Lead one weekly extracurricular activity during each term.
• Contribute to textile clubs, creative showcases, exhibitions, competitions, or related enrichment activities.
• Support school events and educational activities that may occasionally take place during evenings or weekends.
• Contribute to professional development, teaching and learning initiatives, and the wider improvement of the academy.
• Follow all safeguarding, child‑protection, health and safety, and professional conduct requirements.

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Textiles, Fashion Design, Design and Technology, or a closely related subject.
• PGCE or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• Minimum 3 years of teaching experience within the English National Curriculum.
