HireOn in Abu Dhabi, UAE is seeking an experienced Senior Data Governance Consultant to strengthen enterprise data governance across Microsoft Azure environments and Purview implementations.

You will translate governance requirements into practical solutions, define ownership, stewardship, metadata standards, and collaborate with business and technical teams to improve data quality, transparency, traceability, and compliance.

We're Hiring | Senior Data Governance Consultant – Microsoft Purview & Azure

Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE

Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite

Experience: 7+ Years

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Governance Consultant to support a UAE government department in strengthening its enterprise data governance capabilities across Microsoft Azure data environments.

This role is ideal for a hands-on professional who can translate data governance requirements into practical solutions using Microsoft Purview, establish enterprise-wide governance standards, and work closely with business and technical teams to improve data quality, transparency, traceability, and control.

What You'll Be Responsible For

Enterprise Data Governance

• Establish and operationalize data governance frameworks, policies, standards, procedures, and operating models.
• Define data ownership, stewardship responsibilities, governance roles, and RACI matrices across business and technical teams.
• Assess existing governance capabilities, identify gaps, and develop actionable implementation roadmaps.

Microsoft Purview & Metadata Management

• Configure and manage Microsoft Purview capabilities for data discovery, cataloguing, metadata management, classification, and lineage.
• Develop and maintain business glossaries, data dictionaries, data domains, and critical data element inventories.
• Improve data discoverability and traceability by establishing consistent metadata standards and governance practices.
• Investigate metadata and lineage gaps and coordinate corrective actions with relevant technical teams.

Data Quality, Classification & Compliance

• Define data quality rules, KPIs, monitoring mechanisms, issue-management processes, and remediation procedures.
• Support data classification, sensitivity management, privacy requirements, and data access governance.
• Collaborate with security, risk, and compliance stakeholders to align governance practices with organizational policies and applicable regulatory requirements.

Azure Data Platform Governance

• Work alongside data engineers, architects, and analytics teams to embed governance controls into enterprise data solutions.
• Support governance across relevant Azure technologies, including:
• Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 (ADLS Gen2)
• Azure Data Factory (ADF)
• Azure Synapse Analytics
• Azure Databricks
• Azure SQL
• Power BI and/or Microsoft Fabric
• Support data lineage and impact analysis across connected data sources, pipelines, and analytics environments.

Professional Experience

What We're Looking For:

• 7+ years of relevant experience in data governance, data management, metadata management, data quality, or data architecture.
• Strong, practical experience implementing and administering Microsoft Purview in an enterprise environment.
• Demonstrated experience translating governance requirements into operational processes, standards, and technical configurations.
• Experience establishing data ownership, stewardship, business glossaries, data classification, and data quality controls.
• Practical understanding of data lineage, metadata discovery, and impact analysis.

Technical Knowledge

• Strong understanding of Microsoft Azure data services and cloud data governance.
• Familiarity with Azure data integration, storage, processing, and analytics platforms.
• Understanding of data security, privacy, access controls, and enterprise compliance requirements.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with data engineering and architecture teams.

Education & Certifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Certifications such as DAMA CDMP, Microsoft Azure, or relevant data governance credentials are an advantage.

Important Location Requirement:

This is a fully onsite position in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Candidates must either be currently based in Abu Dhabi or be willing to relocate from another emirate.
