Role Context The Consultant Pediatric Rehabilitation physician will assess children with complex functional limitations and establish coordinated rehabilitation pathways designed around their developmental stage, medical condition, mobility, communication, and everyday needs. The role brings together medical rehabilitation with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, family education, and ongoing functional assessment. By setting realistic treatment goals and monitoring progress over time, the consultant will help children achieve greater independence and participate more effectively in home, school, and community life.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate children with cerebral palsy, developmental delay, neuromuscular disorders, musculoskeletal conditions, and other rehabilitation needs.
- Conduct detailed functional assessments covering mobility, muscle tone, strength, coordination, communication, self-care, and developmental abilities.
- Develop individualized rehabilitation programs with measurable short-term and long-term treatment goals.
- Coordinate physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and other allied healthcare interventions.
- Lead multidisciplinary case discussions and align treatment priorities across the rehabilitation team.
- Monitor functional progress and modify rehabilitation plans according to clinical response and changing developmental needs.
- Assess mobility limitations and recommend appropriate rehabilitation strategies, positioning programs, assistive devices, or supportive interventions.
- Support children with neurological conditions requiring long-term rehabilitation and functional monitoring.
- Provide medical guidance for musculoskeletal problems that affect mobility, posture, participation, or independence.
- Educate parents and caregivers on home-based rehabilitation exercises, positioning, mobility support, and continuity of therapy.
- Help families understand realistic rehabilitation goals and expected progress.
- Work closely with pediatricians, neurologists, orthopedic specialists, therapists, and other healthcare professionals when complex medical input is required.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation covering assessments, goals, treatment recommendations, progress, and multidisciplinary decisions.
- Support adherence to UAE healthcare standards, patient safety requirements, and evidence-based rehabilitation practice.
- Contribute to clinical reviews, service improvement, staff education, and rehabilitation quality initiatives.
Ideal Profile
- Consultant-level qualification in Pediatric Rehabilitation, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Pediatrics, Neurology, Orthopedics, or another relevant specialty with substantial rehabilitation experience.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant clinical experience.
- Strong background managing pediatric physical, neurological, developmental, or musculoskeletal rehabilitation cases.
- Experience working with children affected by cerebral palsy, developmental delay, neuromuscular disease, or mobility impairment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop structured multidisciplinary rehabilitation programs.
- Strong understanding of functional assessment and goal-based rehabilitation planning.
- Effective leadership when coordinating physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other clinical professionals.
- Ability to communicate rehabilitation goals clearly to children, families, and caregivers.
- Fluent English communication skills, while Arabic language ability is advantageous.
- Eligibility for appropriate DHA or DOH medical licensing in the United Arab Emirates.
- Commitment to evidence-based, family-centered, and patient-centered pediatric rehabilitation.
