Role Context
The Consultant Pediatric Radiologist will deliver accurate, timely, and age-appropriate diagnostic imaging for newborns, children, and adolescents across a broad range of medical and surgical conditions. The role supports early diagnosis, treatment planning, emergency decision-making, and long-term clinical management through expert interpretation of multiple imaging modalities. Close collaboration with pediatric specialists will ensure imaging findings are integrated effectively into patient-centered treatment pathways.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and report pediatric X-rays, ultrasound examinations, CT studies, MRI scans, and fluoroscopic procedures.
- Provide consultant-level diagnostic opinions for routine, urgent, and complex pediatric imaging cases.
- Perform and supervise pediatric imaging examinations using protocols appropriate to patient age, size, and clinical indication.
- Maintain high standards of image quality while minimizing unnecessary radiation exposure.
- Apply pediatric-specific radiation protection and dose optimization principles to CT, fluoroscopy, and conventional radiography.
- Conduct pediatric ultrasound examinations and provide expert interpretation of complex sonographic findings.
- Review MRI studies covering neurological, abdominal, musculoskeletal, oncological, and other pediatric indications.
- Interpret CT imaging for trauma, acute illness, congenital abnormalities, tumors, and other clinical conditions.
- Perform or supervise fluoroscopic examinations according to clinical requirements and institutional protocols.
- Undertake image-guided diagnostic or minimally invasive procedures when within approved clinical privileges.
- Provide prompt consultation to pediatricians and other referring physicians when complex imaging findings require specialist discussion.
- Collaborate with Neonatology, Pediatric Surgery, Oncology, Orthopedics, Emergency Medicine, and other specialties.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, pediatric case reviews, tumor boards, and treatment-planning discussions.
- Compare current and previous imaging to monitor disease progression, treatment response, and postoperative outcomes.
- Produce accurate, structured, and clinically relevant radiology reports within appropriate reporting timelines.
- Maintain complete documentation of imaging findings, procedures, recommendations, and communications with clinical teams.
- Contribute to clinical audits, quality-improvement programs, radiation-safety reviews, and patient-safety initiatives.
- Participate in research, teaching, departmental education, and Continuing Medical Education activities.
- Supervise and mentor junior radiologists, residents, fellows, and radiographers where applicable.
- Follow UAE healthcare regulations, hospital policies, evidence-based imaging standards, and professional ethical requirements.
Ideal Profile
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
- Completion of an accredited residency in Diagnostic Radiology.
- Board Certification in Diagnostic Radiology.
- Fellowship or recognized subspecialty certification in Pediatric Radiology.
- Board Certification in Pediatric Radiology where applicable.
- Minimum 3-5 years of post-board experience practicing as a Consultant Pediatric Radiologist.
- Extensive experience interpreting pediatric imaging across multiple diagnostic modalities.
- Strong practical expertise in ultrasound, MRI, CT, fluoroscopy, and conventional radiography.
- Previous experience within a tertiary care facility or children 's hospital is preferred.
- Familiarity with advanced pediatric imaging techniques and image-guided diagnostic procedures is advantageous.
- Valid UAE healthcare authority license or eligibility to obtain the appropriate license.
- Strong analytical and diagnostic judgment when evaluating complex pediatric imaging.
- Ability to communicate urgent or significant findings clearly to referring clinicians.
- Comfortable working efficiently in a high-volume clinical environment while maintaining reporting accuracy.
- Strong commitment to radiation safety, evidence-based medicine, patient-centered care, and continuous professional development.
