Clinical Scope
The Consultant will manage complex pediatric hematology and oncology cases across inpatient and outpatient settings. The position combines specialist cancer care with comprehensive transplant management, including donor evaluation, conditioning, transplantation, engraftment surveillance, post-transplant follow-up, and management of transplant-related complications. The role also supports cellular and advanced therapies, including CAR-T therapy where applicable, alongside multidisciplinary clinical service development, teaching, research, and quality improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert consultation, diagnosis, and management for pediatric hematology and oncology patients.
- Manage acute and chronic leukemias in children and adolescents.
- Diagnose and treat lymphomas, brain tumors, and other solid tumors.
- Manage bone marrow failure syndromes.
- Provide specialist care for hemoglobinopathies and inherited blood disorders.
- Diagnose and manage bleeding and coagulation disorders.
- Treat immunodeficiency, immune dysregulation, and other complex hematological conditions.
- Provide comprehensive care for patients undergoing autologous and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
- Participate in donor evaluation and transplant preparation.
- Manage conditioning, transplantation, engraftment monitoring, and post-transplant follow-up.
- Diagnose and manage graft-versus-host disease, infections, graft failure, immune complications, and other post-transplant conditions.
- Contribute to the assessment and delivery of cellular and advanced therapies, including CAR-T therapy where applicable.
- Develop individualized treatment plans according to international clinical guidelines and institutional protocols.
- Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards, transplant meetings, and complex case conferences.
- Coordinate care with pediatric surgeons, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, infectious disease specialists, intensive care teams, and other relevant specialties.
- Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations and participate in on-call or urgent clinical services as required.
- Communicate diagnoses, prognosis, treatment options, potential risks, and expected outcomes clearly to patients and families.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive medical documentation.
- Participate in patient safety, clinical governance, accreditation, and quality improvement activities.
- Contribute to clinical pathways, protocols, and the development of transplant and cellular therapy programs.
- Teach and supervise fellows, residents, medical students, and other healthcare professionals.
- Support clinical research, publications, presentations, and institutional academic activities.
Qualifications
- MD, MBBS, or equivalent medical degree from a recognized medical school.
- Recognized postgraduate qualification in Pediatrics.
- Fellowship or subspecialty training in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology.
- Board Certification in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology.
- Additional recognized training or substantial experience in Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy is highly desirable.
- Appropriate professional registration and eligibility for licensure in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
- Current certification in relevant life-support programs as required by the institution.
Professional Experience
- Significant post-specialty experience as a Consultant in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex pediatric hematology and oncology cases.
- Strong clinical experience in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
- Experience with both allogeneic and autologous transplant programs is preferred.
- Experience with CAR-T or other advanced cellular therapies is highly desirable.
- Experience within multidisciplinary pediatric oncology and transplant services.
- Academic, research, teaching, or program-development experience is an advantage.

Preferred Expertise

Experience with unrelated donor, haploidentical, or cord blood transplantation is desirable, as is practical exposure to CAR-T therapy, pediatric immunotherapy, and targeted therapies. Experience developing or expanding HSCT and cellular therapy services, together with peer-reviewed publications, clinical research, academic teaching, or international fellowship and board certification from a recognized pediatric hematology and oncology program, is also advantageous.
