Allocation Assist Middle East is seeking an experienced Consultant Neuro-Ophthalmologist for a leading tertiary care hospital in the UAE. You will diagnose and manage complex neuro-ophthalmic disorders in adults and children, with dual pediatric ophthalmology training highly preferred.

Collaboration with neurology, neurosurgery, radiology, endocrinology, and MDTs is essential. The role includes clinical examinations, advanced testing, imaging interpretation, and multidisciplinary treatment

Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Residency in Ophthalmology completed.
  • Fellowship in Neuro-ophthalmology completed.
  • Dual Pediatric Ophthalmology fellowship preferred.
  • DOH UAE license or eligibility for consultant licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and manage neuro-ophthalmic disorders affecting optic nerve and visual pathways.
  • Evaluate and treat optic neuritis, papilledema, diplopia, visual field defects.
  • Perform comprehensive neuro-ophthalmic examinations with OCT, visual fields, fundus imaging, angiography, and electrophysiology.
  • Interpret neuroimaging findings including MRI and CT with ophthalmic and neurological conditions.
  • Provide care for adult and pediatric neuro-ophthalmic patients.
  • Collaborate with neurology, neurosurgery, radiology, endocrinology, and MDTs.
  • Provide pre- and post-operative ophthalmic assessment for neurosurgical patients.
  • Educate patients and families about diagnosis and prognosis.
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation per DOH regulations.
  • Participate in audits, CME, research, and quality initiatives.
  • Supervise and mentor junior physicians and staff.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Neuro-Ophthalmologist to join a leading tertiary care hospital in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing and managing complex visual disorders related to neurological diseases in both adult and pediatric patients. Dual fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology is highly preferred to support comprehensive neuro-visual services. The role requires close collaboration with neurology, neurosurgery, radiology, endocrinology, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional patient-centered care.


Key Responsibilities


  • Diagnose and manage neuro-ophthalmic disorders affecting the optic nerve, visual pathways, ocular motility, and neurological vision.

  • Evaluate and treat conditions including optic neuritis, papilledema, diplopia, visual field defects, ischemic optic neuropathy, cranial nerve palsies, myasthenia gravis, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, and neuro-ophthalmic emergencies.

  • Perform comprehensive neuro-ophthalmic examinations and interpret specialized diagnostic tests, including optical coherence tomography (OCT), visual field testing, fundus imaging, fluorescein angiography, and electrophysiological studies.

  • Interpret and correlate neuroimaging findings, including MRI and CT scans, with ophthalmic and neurological conditions.

  • Provide specialized care for both adult and pediatric patients with neuro-ophthalmic disorders, where dual-trained.

  • Collaborate closely with neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, endocrinologists, pediatricians, and rehabilitation specialists to develop multidisciplinary treatment plans.

  • Provide pre-operative and post-operative ophthalmic assessment for patients undergoing neurological and neurosurgical procedures where appropriate.

  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, prognosis, and long-term disease management.

  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in accordance with DOH regulations and hospital policies.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, research, and continuing medical education activities.

  • Supervise and mentor junior physicians, residents, fellows, and allied healthcare professionals.

  • Ensure compliance with patient safety standards, infection control protocols, ethical medical practice, and evidence-based clinical guidelines.


Qualifications


  • Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.

  • Completion of a recognized Residency in Ophthalmology.

  • Fellowship in Neuro-ophthalmology from a recognized institution.

  • Dual Fellowship or subspecialty training in Pediatric Ophthalmology is highly preferred.

  • Tier 1 qualification, such as:

    • American Board Certification

    • UK Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)

    • Canadian Fellowship

    • Australian/New Zealand Fellowship

    • Equivalent internationally recognized qualification



  • DOH License, DOH Eligibility Letter, or eligibility for Consultant licensure in the UAE.


Experience


  • Minimum of 5 years of Consultant-level experience in Neuro-ophthalmology.

  • Extensive experience managing complex neuro-ophthalmic disorders in adult and pediatric populations.

  • Previous experience in a tertiary care hospital or academic medical center is highly preferred.
