Job description

As a Consultant Cardiologist, you will lead the provision of expert cardiovascular care, diagnosing and treating cardiac diseases for both inpatient and outpatient settings. You will perform clinical responsibilities, supervise junior doctors, collaborate within multidisciplinary teams, contribute to quality improvement.

Clinical Care
  • Examine, diagnose, and treat patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions (e.g. coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular disease, arrhythmias).
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, based on your specialty (e.g., echocardiography, stress tests, ECG, catheterization).
  • In interventional roles: angiography, angioplasties, stent placement, and structural interventions.
  • In electrophysiology roles: EP studies, device implantations, ablations, back‑ups for syncope / conduction system disorders.
  • Provide consultant input for inpatient rounds, emergency admissions, critical care, and outpatient clinics.
Procedures & Technical
  • Maintain competency in required cardiology techniques and stay updated with the latest devices / imaging / mapping systems (e.g. IVUS, OCT, mapping in EP).
  • Assist / lead in the development or running of cath labs, EP labs, imaging labs.
  • Ensure safety protocols, sterility, patient monitoring, and pre‑ / post‑procedure care.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
  • Work closely with cardiac surgeons, intensivists, imaging/radiology, anaesthesia, emergency medicine and other specialties.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings for complex cases (heart failure, structural heart disease, congenital, etc.).
Teaching, Mentorship & Research
  • Supervise/responsible for junior cardiologists, residents, fellows, interns in training.
  • Contribute to continuing medical education (CME), quality improvement programs, clinical audits.
  • Engage in or lead research, publications, clinical trials if applicable.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain high standards of medical documentation, including patient records, procedure reports, diagnostic test interpretations.
  • Ensure compliance with Department of Health (DOH) – Abu Dhabi requirements, hospital policies, accreditation standards.
  • Participate in morbidity & mortality meetings, safety reviews.
  • Adhere to infection control, health & safety policies.
On‑call / Emergency Duties
  • Provide on‑call coverage for cardiology emergencies: acute coronary syndrome, arrhythmias, etc.
  • Participate in hospital’s emergency protocols when needed.
Administrative Duties
  • Help in planning service development, budgeting, resource allocation for cardiology department.
  • Participate in or lead committees, policy formulation.
  • Ensure use of clinical guidelines and protocols.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Medical Degree (MBBS/MD or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
  • Residency in Internal Medicine/Cardiology.
  • Fellowship or specialization (if applicable) in interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, imaging, etc.
  • Board certification in Cardiology (and subspecialty if applicable) e.g. American Boards, UK CCT, Royal College, etc.
  • Proven track record in performing required procedures in high volume setting.
  • Experience in leadership / supervision.
