A leading engineering firm in the United Arab Emirates is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to be responsible for executing commissioning and maintenance activities related to machinery and packaged equipment. The role requires a strong background in mechanical engineering with 5-10 years of relevant experience in the oil & gas or petrochemical sectors. You will ensure compliance with safety standards while managing subcontractor operations and maintaining project documentation.

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of experience in machinery and package commissioning within oil & gas, petrochemical, or power plant projects.
  • Experience in pre-commissioning, functional testing, and troubleshooting of machinery and packages.
  • Familiarity with HSE management systems and project quality requirements.

Job description

The Commissioning Engineer Machinery & Packages is responsible for executing all pre-commissioning, commissioning, and maintenance activities related to machinery and packaged equipment within the plant. The role ensures all activities are performed in compliance with quality, health, safety, and environmental standards, and according to approved project procedures and commissioning plans.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop detailed pre-commissioning and functional test procedures for machinery and packages in line with project requirements and under the supervision of the Commissioning Machinery Superintendent (CMT).
  • Conduct field verification of DACs (Discipline Acceptance Certificates) and prepare commissioning punch lists as per the Commissioning Mechanical Engineer (CME) instructions.
  • Expedite the closure of punch list items based on the priorities established by the Commissioning Superintendent (COT) and ensure all activities are executed in compliance with project standards and procedures.
  • Ensure strict adherence to HSE regulations, enforcing all safety rules and procedures during commissioning operations.
  • Supervise and manage the field operations of assigned subcontractor teams, ensuring compliance with project requirements and safety procedures, especially during emergency situations.
  • Coordinate and support vendor specialists during the execution of commissioning tasks, ensuring effective integration with site operations and supervising their work for efficient utilization.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all commissioning and maintenance activities in the logbook.
  • Prepare, verify, and submit all commissioning and handover certificates, duly signed by involved parties, to the QA / QC Certification Engineer.
  • Support and execute ongoing maintenance activities (planned and corrective) on plant units already in operation, in coordination with the Commissioning Superintendent (COT) and Commissioning Machinery Superintendent (CMT).
  • Act as the authorized person, when designated by the Site Manager, to issue or receive Permits to Work in accordance with the project\'s Permit to Work Procedure.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor\'s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in machinery and package commissioning within oil & gas, petrochemical, or power plant projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of rotating equipment, compressors, turbines, pumps, and auxiliary systems.
  • Experience in pre-commissioning, functional testing, and troubleshooting of machinery and packages.
  • Familiarity with HSE management systems, project quality requirements, and commissioning documentation processes.
  • Proven ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and work effectively in multicultural environments.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and reporting skills.
