Role Context

This assignment focuses on systems-level contributions to established open-source codebases. The engineer must understand existing architecture, respect public interfaces, and deliver improvements that balance performance, reliability, maintainability, and compatibility. C will be the primary language, although individual repositories may include components written in Python, Java, Go, TypeScript, or Rust.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop production-ready C code for selected open-source repositories.
• Review architecture, dependencies, interfaces, build systems, and repository conventions.
• Design algorithms and software components that meet defined functional requirements.
• Implement new capabilities without compromising existing behaviour or compatibility.
• Analyze complex defects and reproduce them through controlled test cases.
• Use debugging tools and runtime evidence to identify root causes.
• Resolve memory, concurrency, integration, logic, and performance problems.
• Profile execution paths and optimize components with verified bottlenecks.
• Refactor difficult code to improve readability, structure, and maintainability.
• Protect resource ownership and error-handling behaviour during code changes.
• Add unit, integration, and regression tests for all substantial contributions.
• Validate builds across supported configurations before submitting changes.
• Prepare focused commits and pull requests with clear technical explanations.
• Address maintainer feedback and revise implementations through the review process.
• Assess peer contributions for correctness, efficiency, safety, and architectural fit.
• Provide constructive code-review comments that help raise overall project quality.
• Participate in design discussions and explain relevant implementation trade-offs.
• Maintain API references, setup instructions, developer guides, and onboarding content.
• Follow open-source governance, licensing, coding, and security requirements.
• Coordinate asynchronously with maintainers, contributors, and customer stakeholders.

Ideal Profile

The preferred candidate has strong professional C experience and previous involvement in open-source or collaboratively maintained software. Work on large-scale, distributed, performance-sensitive, or multi-language codebases is particularly valuable. Applicants should understand algorithms, data structures, memory management, concurrency, debugging, profiling, automated testing, and Git-based contribution workflows. Experience participating in rigorous code reviews and establishing software-engineering best practices is preferred.
