Job summary

Saildrone is seeking a Technical Operations Engineer to join our Fleet Operations Team.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Technical Operations Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and readiness of Saildrone’s autonomous surface vehicles across their full lifecycle; from research and development, production, through global deployments, in all operating environments.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical/Mechanical/Robotics/Software or related).
2+ years experience with embedded systems, robotics or autonomous hardware.
Ability to read electrical diagrams and mechanical drawings for repairs/modifications.
Experience with serial and network protocols (CAN, RS-485, RS-232, SPI, I2C, TCP/IP).
Proficient with Linux and shell scripting; API experience a plus.
Clear communication of complex technical failures to cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

Resolve complex hardware, software and networking issues using Linux tools, telemetry, and scripting.
Own technical outcomes for assigned vehicles, including reliability and readiness.
Lead deep-dive RCAs for field failures and drive corrective actions across design and process.
Embed with Engineering to provide feedback on system architecture and test solutions.
Travel up to 30% to lead vehicle preparation, troubleshooting and mission execution.
Participate in on-call rotations for real-time troubleshooting of fleet incidents.
Create clear work instructions and training to scale operation.
Maintain records and inventories following safety standards.
