Automotive Technician – Engine and Gearbox Rebuild Specialist

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Automotive Technician with extensive experience in engine rebuilding and gearbox rebuilding. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of automotive repair, diagnostics, and servicing, with specific expertise in disassembling, repairing, and reassembling engines and gearboxes. This role demands a high level of technical proficiency, problem-solving ability, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of vehicle performance and safety.

Key Responsibilities
Engine Rebuilds
  • Disassemble, inspect, and rebuild engines to manufacturer specifications.
  • Diagnose engine malfunctions and provide detailed reports on required repairs or parts replacement.
  • Recondition engine components such as pistons, valves, crankshafts, cylinder heads, and camshafts.
  • Ensure proper alignment, tolerances, and clearances of all engine parts during rebuild.
  • Perform compression tests, timing adjustments, and ensure all systems are properly calibrated after rebuild.
  • Test rebuilt engines to verify performance, smooth operation, and correct function.
Gearbox Rebuilds
  • Disassemble, inspect, and rebuild manual and automatic transmissions and transfer cases.
  • Troubleshoot and repair common transmission issues, such as slipping, rough shifting, or noise.
  • Replace worn or damaged gears, bearings, seals, and other components within the gearbox.
  • Reassemble gearboxes with precision, ensuring smooth shifting and proper gear engagement.
  • Perform fluid and filter changes, and conduct transmission system checks for fluid levels, leaks, and overall condition.
  • Test drive vehicles after transmission rebuilds to ensure functionality and proper operation.
Diagnostic & Repair
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and techniques to identify mechanical issues within engines and drivetrains.
  • Repair and replace components as needed, including belts, timing chains, pumps, sensors, and wiring.
  • Perform regular maintenance services (oil changes, spark plug replacement, fluid top-offs, etc.) for engines and gearboxes.
  • Maintain detailed service records for all repairs and rebuilds.
Customer Service & Communication
  • Provide clear and accurate communication to customers regarding the condition of their vehicles and the necessary repairs.
  • Offer recommendations for preventive maintenance to extend the life of engine and gearbox systems.
  • Work with the service team to ensure timely and efficient repair processes.
  • Answer customer questions and explain technical details in a clear, customer-friendly manner.
Workplace Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate protective equipment while working with tools and machinery.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Adhere to manufacturer guidelines, local regulations, and company policies in all aspects of vehicle repair.
Required Qualifications
  • Proven experience in engine and gearbox rebuilds for a variety of vehicle makes and models.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive systems, including engines, transmissions, and drivetrains.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools, repair equipment, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality control during rebuild processes.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., ASE, manufacturer-specific training) are preferred.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving license
