Role Context

The Assistant ICT Engineer - School Systems will support the delivery of reliable ICT services across GEMS schools by assisting with technical support, infrastructure maintenance, classroom technology, digital learning platforms, asset records, and information security procedures. The role helps ensure that technology resources remain available, secure, and effective for teaching, learning, administration, school events, examinations, and daily operations. Working closely with ICT Engineers and support teams, the postholder will contribute to a stable and safe digital environment for students, teachers, and administrative staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide first‑line technical support to staff and students for hardware, software, network, Wi‑Fi, printer, and classroom technology issues.
  • Diagnose and resolve ICT incidents in a timely, professional, and service‑focused manner.
  • Log, monitor, update, and close support requests using the school ticketing or service management system.
  • Escalate complex technical issues to the ICT Engineer or relevant support teams when further specialist support is required.
  • Support the maintenance and operation of desktops, laptops, printers, interactive displays, telephony systems, audiovisual equipment, and classroom devices.
  • Assist with installation, configuration, deployment, relocation, and testing of computer hardware, software, peripherals, and school technology resources.
  • Monitor network connectivity, Wi‑Fi access points, classroom systems, and digital learning equipment to reduce disruption to teaching and operations.
  • Carry out routine system checks, software updates, preventative maintenance, and basic troubleshooting activities.
  • Ensure classroom ICT equipment is ready for lessons, presentations, examinations, assemblies, school events, and digital learning activities.
  • Support staff in using approved educational applications, digital platforms, learning technologies, and audiovisual systems.
  • Maintain accurate ICT asset records, equipment inventories, software license details, stock movements, and audit documentation.
  • Assist with asset audits, stock control, equipment tracking, and replacement planning.
  • Support implementation of ICT policies, governance procedures, security standards, and data protection requirements.
  • Assist with cybersecurity measures including antivirus updates, user access management, password support, and safe technology practices.
  • Report safeguarding, e‑safety, data protection, or cybersecurity concerns according to school policies and procedures.
  • Promote safe and responsible use of technology across the school environment.
  • Ensure ICT equipment is installed, stored, moved, and maintained in line with health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain an organised ICT workspace, storage area, equipment room, and support environment.
  • Follow GEMS Education policies, safeguarding standards, ICT governance requirements, and professional codes of conduct at all times.
Ideal Profile
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands‑on experience managing or maintaining ICT infrastructure.
  • School ICT support experience is preferred.
  • Practical knowledge of desktops, laptops, printers, interactive displays, audiovisual equipment, Wi‑Fi, basic networking, and classroom technology.
  • Understanding of ticketing systems, service requests, ICT asset records, and user support procedures.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to support teachers, students, administrative staff, and technical colleagues professionally.
  • Good technical problem‑solving ability with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure during busy school periods, examinations, events, and system support peaks.
  • Organised, reliable, proactive, and able to follow ICT policies and escalation procedures.
  • Awareness of information security, data protection, e‑safety, and responsible technology use in a school environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and support safeguarding expectations when working around students and school data.
  • A UK‑enhanced DBS or equivalent police clearance is required for appointment.
