JOB TITLE: Animal Care Apprentice | MAF Entertainment | Snow Dome

ROLE SUMMARY: The purpose of the Animal Care Apprentice is to assist the Animal Care & Welfare team with the daily encounters, activities, cleaning, and husbandry procedures. Assists in the efficiency of daily operations, maintenance, and safety in the Aquarium, Encounter and March areas. Always ensure highest customer service.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in daily animal care, including feeding, training, and monitoring animal health and behavior.
  • Support public demonstrations, ensuring animal and visitor safety during interactions.
  • Maintain animal habitats and presentation areas, ensuring cleanliness and proper setup.
  • Prepare animal diets and manage feeding routines under guidance.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report shortages to senior staff.
  • Participate in guest encounters and safety briefings under supervision.
  • Engage with guests confidently, providing educational and enjoyable interactions.
  • Deliver public presentations, aiming to inspire care for animals and the planet through informative talks.
Qualifications
  • Educational background in animal care (certificate/diploma preferred) or equivalent hands-on experience in the field.
  • Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written, with a confident public presence.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation and reporting tasks.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs., standing/walking for long periods, and working in cold environments.
  • Basic animal care knowledge, including understanding animal behavior and handling.
  • Familiar with LSS (Life Support Systems) and general safety procedures.
