The Alterations Tailor/finisher – Wedding Dress is responsible for performing high-quality alterations, fittings, and adjustments on bridal gowns and evening dresses to ensure each piece fits the client’s body perfectly. The role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong craftsmanship, and the ability to work closely with designers, sales teams, and clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all types of alterations on wedding and evening dresses, including hemming, taking in/out seams, reshaping bodices, adjusting straps, and adding/removing embellishments.
- Conduct detailed fittings with clients, providing professional advice on necessary adjustments while maintaining the original design integrity.
- Collaborate with designers and consultants to understand the intended fit and style of each gown.
- Mark garments accurately during fittings to ensure precise alterations.
- Sew by hand and machine using couture techniques to achieve a seamless and professional finish.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area with careful handling of delicate fabrics such as lace, silk, tulle, and beading.
- Meet production deadlines and ensure all alterations are completed to a high standard and on time.
- Record and track all alteration details, measurements, and client preferences.
- Maintain strong communication with the sales and fitting teams to ensure customer satisfaction.
Skills
- Proven experience as a Bridal or Couture Alterations Tailor (minimum 3–5 years preferred).
- Excellent hand-sewing and machine-sewing skills.
- Strong knowledge of bridal construction, pattern work, and delicate fabrics.
- Ability to perform precise and complex alterations while preserving the design.
- Excellent attention to detail, patience, and a passion for craftsmanship.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to work under pressure during peak bridal seasons.
