Job summary

A leading company in the oil and gas industry is seeking a qualified accountant with experience in the shipping industry. Responsibilities include preparing financial reports, managing vendor payments, and updating asset movements. Candidates should hold a relevant degree and have 3-5 years of experience in accounting. Strong computer skills, especially in ERP packages like Oracle Financials, are essential.

  • Working knowledge of ERP packages preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of freight invoices as per advices received from Shipping.
  • Make payments to settle vendor claims.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and reports under Finance Manager's guidance.
  • Prepare group reporting packs for consolidation at Group level.
  • Update fixed asset movements in the Fixed Asset Register.
  • Handle audit queries with analytical comparisons.

Job Purpose


  • The job holder will be responsible in the functional areas of financial transaction accounting conducted in a timely and efficient manner.


Principal Accountabilities


  • Preparation of freight invoices as per advices received from Shipping

  • Makes payment in settlement of vendors claims

  • Prepares monthly management accounts and management reports under the guidance of Finance Manager

  • Prepares exceptional reports and selective data to meet the day-to-day requirements of the management

  • Prepares group reporting packs and update monthly results in COGNOS system for consolidation at Group level

  • Updates fixed assets movements in the Fixed Asset Register by capturing all the capital asset requisitions purchases and write offs /retirements with appropriate approvals

  • Handles audit queries by preparing comparative analytical between periods and relative accounts where applicable and thus facilitates smooth and satisfactory completion of Statutory Government and Internal Audits


Education/Qualifications & Experience


  • A relevant university degree in accounting preferablyCPA CA ACCACMA

  • 3- 5 years relevant experience specifically in Shipping Industry


Computer skills


  • Sound commercial awareness combined with a high degree of computer skills

  • System knowledge and IT awareness. Working knowledge and exposure to any ERP packages preferably Oracle Financials
