Job summary

A leading recreational organization based in Cape Town is seeking a Youth Counselor to develop and implement engaging activities for youth aged 3-17. The role involves supervising activities, ensuring safety, and building positive relationships with youth and their families. Ideal candidates should have a Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience working with youth. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with youth, preferably in a camp, school, or recreational setting.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

Job description

- Develop and implement engaging and age-appropriate activities for youth ages 3-17, including games, sports, arts and crafts, and educational programs

- Supervise and monitor youth activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants

- Build positive relationships with youth and their families, providing emotional support and guidance as needed

- Collaborate with other youth counselors and crew members to plan and execute ship-wide events and activities

- Maintain accurate records of youth participation and behavior, and report any concerns to the Youth Program Manager

- Ensure compliance with all safety and security protocols, as well as company policies and procedures

- Attend mandatory training sessions and meetings to stay updated on company policies, procedures, and best practices

- Assist with the organization and setup of youth program areas and supplies

- Act as a role model for youth, promoting positive values and behavior at all times

- Maintain a clean and organized youth program area, following all sanitation and hygiene guidelines

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in counseling, social work, education, or a related field

- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with youth, preferably in a camp, school, or recreational setting

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with youth and their families

- Strong organizational and time-management skills

- Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment

- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

- CPR and First Aid certification preferred

- Must pass a background check and drug test
