About the Role
An established and reputable motor industry group in Kimberley is seeking a qualified and experienced Project Manager to oversee all aspects of mechanical, engineering, and auto-electrical workshop operations.
This role requires a technically strong and organized individual with a solid Diesel Mechanic background, hands‑on mechanical experience, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to manage people, processes, parts, and projects within a busy workshop environment.
Minimum Requirements
- Educational Qualification: NQF Level 4 / N1–N3 (Mechanical or equivalent)
- Trade Test Qualification: Diesel Mechanic – Red Seal (essential)
- Experience:
- 3–5 years’ hands‑on mechanical experience
- Minimum 2 years’ workshop and staff management experience
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Sound knowledge of hydraulics and auto-electrical systems (advantageous)
- Computer literacy and strong administrative competence (job cards, costing, quoting, reporting, etc.)
- Fluent in English and Afrikaans (read, write, and speak)
- Excellent planning, communication, and leadership abilities
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Must be able to work after hours and perform under pressure
Key Responsibilities
Workshop & Project Management
- Manage the full operational flow of the mechanical, engineering, and auto-electrical workshops.
- Prepare and review quotations for vehicles, engines, and mine‑related work (must be accurate and detailed).
- Identify engine parts, evaluate reconditionability, and advise on repairs.
- Assist with sourcing and procurement of parts.
- Liaise with suppliers and other Project Managers regarding parts availability and job coordination.
- Handle all queries, parts orders, and invoices efficiently.
- Manage and monitor staff performance, workload allocation, and technician scheduling.
- Oversee the warranty process for engine rebuilds and quotes to mining clients.
- Ensure daily workflow and repair progress tracking for all jobs.
- Provide technical support and guidance to technicians and field service staff.
- Maintain workshop targets and report directly to the Branch Manager.
Quality, Safety & Administration
- Ensure all ISO, Health and Safety procedures and policies are strictly followed.
- Monitor workshop condition, housekeeping, cleanliness, and overall safety.
- Manage staff PPE compliance and inventory.
- Implement quality control initiatives to improve efficiency and standards.
- Complete and submit accurate reports, quote cards, and documentation timeously.
- Assist with minor disciplinary actions, mentorship, and skills development of staff.
Customer & Communication Management
- Provide exceptional customer service and maintain professional relationships with clients and suppliers.
- Communicate effectively with customers about quotations, progress updates, and warranty‑related matters.
- Represent the company professionally at all times with a focus on reliability, integrity, and technical excellence.
