Job summary

Joubert & Associates in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, seeks an experienced and hands-on Workshop Manager to oversee the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of its workshop. The successful candidate will lead the workshop team, plan and monitor work, maintain quality standards, control resources, and ensure equipment and machinery are serviced and repaired within agreed timeframes.

A degree in Engineering and at least 5 years of managerial experience within an engineering/maintenance

Qualifications

• Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
• At least 5 years’ managerial experience within an engineering/maintenance environment.
• Sound knowledge of maintenance planning, fault-finding, repair processes and quality control.
• Working knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements.
• Computer literate and proficient with management systems.

Responsibilities

• Manage the daily operation of the workshop and allocate work according to priorities, resources and required dates.
• Supervise, guide and develop artisans and technicians.
• Monitor job progress, productivity, workmanship and turnaround times.
• Ensure maintenance, repair, inspection and testing meet requirements.
• Enforce health, safety, environmental and housekeeping standards.
• Plan and monitor preventative maintenance and minimise downtime.
• Manage workshop tools, equipment, spares, consumables and stock levels.
• Review job cards, quotations, parts usage, labour hours and trends.
• Control workshop expenditure and support budgeting and cost-saving initiatives.
• Liaise with internal departments, suppliers, contractors and customers.
• Investigate breakdowns and quality concerns and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
