Job Summary

The Workshop / Production Manager is responsible for overseeing all workshop and production activities to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. This role involves planning and coordinating production, managing workshop staff, controlling resources, and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and engineering requirements.

The position acts as the key link between management, engineering/drawing office, and workshop personnel.

Key Responsibilities
Production & Planning
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily, weekly, and project-based production activities.
  • Translate drawings and project requirements into practical manufacturing plans.
  • Allocate manpower, machinery, and resources efficiently across projects.
  • Monitor production progress and report on status, delays, and risks.
  • Ensure deadlines and delivery dates are met.
Workshop Management
  • Supervise workshop staff including welders, fitters, boilermakers, machinists, and assistants.
  • Ensure correct workmanship and adherence to drawings, procedures, and specifications.
  • Enforce housekeeping and maintain an organized, efficient workshop environment.
  • Manage overtime, shift planning, and workforce productivity.
Quality Control
  • Ensure fabrication and assembly comply with engineering drawings, specifications, and applicable standards.
  • Implement and enforce quality control checks throughout the production process.
  • Identify and resolve non-conformances and rework issues.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, and sign-off where required.
Health & Safety
  • Enforce all workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure safe use of machinery, tools, and lifting equipment.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Report and investigate incidents, near misses, and hazards.
Resource & Cost Control
  • Monitor material usage and minimize waste.
  • Coordinate with procurement for materials, consumables, and subcontractors.
  • Track production costs and assist management with cost control and forecasting.
  • Ensure equipment and machinery are maintained and fit for purpose.
Communication & Coordination
  • Liaise with management, engineers, draughtsmen, and project managers to align production with project requirements.
  • Provide regular production updates and feedback to management.
  • Assist with problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives.
Minimum Requirements

Qualifications & Experience
  • Trade qualification (Boilermaker, Fitter & Turner, Welder) or relevant technical qualification.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a fabrication/manufacturing workshop environment(10 yrs would be a bonus).
  • Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Experience working from mechanical and structural drawings.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
