We’re looking for a dedicated and motivated Workshop Foreman who can lead our team, manage workflow, and ensure every job meets our high standards.
Job Summary
The Workshop Foreman will be responsible for the daily supervision of all workshop activities. This role requires a technically skilled individual with strong leadership and communication skills who can guide mechanics, manage job flow, inspect repairs, and maintain workshop standards.
The successful candidate will act as the bridge between management, mechanics, and customers — ensuring efficient operations and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Workshop Operations & Supervision
- Supervise mechanics, apprentices, and general workers in day‑to‑day operations.
- Allocate and manage job cards according to priority, skill level, and deadlines.
- Ensure all work is completed on time, correctly, and to company standards.
- Conduct quality checks and test drives to confirm repair accuracy.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and assist mechanics in troubleshooting complex issues.
- Maintain order, cleanliness, and safety within the workshop.
- Workflow Management
- Plan and coordinate daily workload to ensure efficiency and productivity.
- Track vehicle progress through each repair stage.
- Report delays, additional faults, or job changes to management promptly.
- Ensure job cards and parts requisitions are filled in accurately and completely.
- Customer and Management Liaison
- Communicate clearly with management about job progress, challenges, and findings.
- Assist in preparing or reviewing quotations when necessary.
- Provide technical explanations to customers where needed, in easy‑to‑understand terms.
- Uphold excellent customer service and represent the company professionally.
- Staff Leadership & Training
- Motivate and guide team members to meet performance goals.
- Train, mentor, and monitor apprentices and junior mechanics.
- Enforce company policies, workshop procedures, and safety standards.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and teamwork‑driven atmosphere.
- Quality Control & Safety
- Inspect all vehicles before delivery to ensure proper repair standards are met.
- Ensure correct use and care of tools, diagnostic equipment, and workshop machinery.
- Maintain and enforce safety standards and compliance with regulations.
- Identify recurring technical issues and suggest process improvements.
- Administrative & Reporting Duties
- Record all work done on job cards accurately.
- Monitor attendance, performance, and discipline within the team.
- Report mechanical issues, shortages, and inefficiencies to management.
- Assist with stock control of tools, parts, and consumables.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Workshop Foreman or Senior Mechanic.
- Proven mechanical experience on cars and / or trucks.
- Valid driver’s licence (Code 8 or higher).
- Leadership, communication, and organisational skills are essential.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail and strong diagnostic ability.
- Basic computer literacy or experience with job card systems is an advantage.
- Must be reliable, punctual, and passionate about the automotive industry.
