Job summary

Rivers Labour Consultants in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal, is seeking a skilled Wireman to join our technical team. The successful candidate will lead electrical installations, commissioning, and safety compliance across solar, generator, and electrical infrastructure projects.

You will rewire distribution boards, install and test circuits, issue Certificates of Compliance, and guide installation teams while ensuring high quality and adherence to industry codes.

Qualifications

• Qualified Engineering Electrician / Wireman with relevant trade certification.
• PV & BESS systems experience; PV Green Card beneficial.
• Proficient in 3-phase systems and basic control systems knowledge.
• Valid Wireman’s License and registration with authorities.
• Proven experience with solar PV, inverters, batteries and generators.
• Strong safety awareness and ability to issue Certificates of Compliance (COCs).

Responsibilities

• Perform duties of Engineering Electrician / Wireman as directed by the Technical Director.
• Rewire and modify distribution boards for solar systems, generators and equipment.
• Install, test, balance, and phase electrical circuits with monitoring devices.
• Maintain knowledge of inverters, batteries and related electrical technologies.
• Guide installation teams to ensure compliance with codes and safety standards.
• Provide technical input and engineering solutions when required.
• Lead project teams and assist with on-site commissioning and quality control.
• Issue Certificates of Compliance (COCs) in line with statutory requirements.
• Monitor daily team operations to ensure high-quality installations.
• Identify and report non-compliance or substandard workmanship to Technical Director.
• Participate in client handovers with technical explanations and system guidance.
• Support standby and after-hours technical support when required.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled and experienced Wireman to join our technical team. The successful candidate will be responsible for advanced electrical installations, commissioning, compliance, and quality control across solar, generator, and electrical infrastructure projects. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and a commitment to safety and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform all duties associated with the role of Engineering Electrician / Wireman as directed by the Technical Director.
• Rewire and modify distribution boards to accommodate solar systems, generators, and associated equipment.
• Install, test, balance, and phase electrical circuits, including monitoring and control devices.
• Maintain current knowledge of inverters, batteries, and related electrical technologies.
• Assist and guide installation teams to ensure compliance with industry codes and safety standards.
• Provide technical input and engineering solutions when required.
• Lead project teams where necessary and assist with on-site commissioning and quality control oversight.
• Issue Certificates of Compliance (COCs) in line with statutory requirements.
• Monitor daily team operations when required and ensure installations meet the highest quality standards.
• Identify and report non-compliance or substandard workmanship to the Technical Director.
• Participate in client handovers, providing technical explanations and system guidance.
• Support standby and after-hours technical support when required.

Minimum Requirements

• Qualified Engineering Electrician / Wireman (relevant trade certification essential)
• A practising wireman who has experience with PV & BESS systems (having a PV Green Card is beneficial).
• Proficient in 3Ph systems and having a working knowledge of control systems will also be beneficial.
• Valid Wireman’s License
• Registration with relevant authorities
• Proven experience with solar PV systems, inverters, batteries, and generators
• Strong understanding of electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards
• Ability to issue Certificates of Compliance (COCs)
• Leadership and team supervision experience advantageous
• Valid driver’s licence and own transport
• Demonstrated experience in quality control
