Windows Server Migration and Application Remediation Engineer Contract

We're looking for a hands‑on Infrastructure Engineer with strong Windows Server and application remediation experience to support our client's infrastructure modernisation and obsolescence programme.

This role focuses on analysing and upgrading Windows Server.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess Windows Server systems and decide between upgrade, migration, or decommission.
  • Perform detailed dependency analysis across applications, databases, IIS sites, SSIS packages, and scheduled jobs.
  • Execute server migrations and decommissions in line with governance and CAB requirements.
  • Remediate application‑level issues: update config files, connection strings, and SSIS packages for compatibility.
  • Use PowerShell, SQL, or batch scripts to automate environment analysis and reporting.
  • Maintain and upgrade ActiveBatch or similar job‑scheduling platforms.
  • Document migration plans, rollback procedures, and audit evidence for compliance teams.
  • Collaborate with application owners, DBAs, and infrastructure teams throughout the migration lifecycle.
Required Skills
  • 6+ years' experience in Windows Server administration and migration.
  • Proficient with Active Directory, IIS, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
  • Strong SQL Server experience (SSIS, jobs, connections, data validation).
  • Solid PowerShell scripting for automation and remediation tasks.
  • Ability to understand and adjust .NET application configurations (web.config, XML, connection strings).
  • Exposure to ActiveBatch, Control‑M, or other job scheduling tools.
  • Experienced in ITIL / CAB / governance‑driven environments.
Advantageous
  • Azure Migrate / VMware migration or cloud readiness experience.
  • Familiarity with COBIT / ISO / financial sector compliance.
  • Background in application support or technical migration projects.
Ideal Candidate
  • Hands‑on, detail‑oriented engineer comfortable across infrastructure and application layers.
  • Analytical thinker with strong troubleshooting and documentation ability.
  • Excellent communicator who collaborates well across teams.
  • Available for an immediate contract start.
