Job summary

A mining company in Limpopo is seeking a Winding Engine Driver to facilitate safe hoisting of personnel and materials underground. The ideal candidate will have at least 1-3 years of experience and the necessary certifications. Preference will be given to historically disadvantaged South Africans.   • Experience in double drum and friction winder; engineering related skills licenses.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the safe hoisting of people, materials and ore, complying with the Minerals Act.
  • Responsible for the safe movement of men and material in a conveyance or skip.
  • Record conditions of the winding engine daily.
  • Complete drivers’ logbook and list stoppages and reasons daily.
  • Advise the Banksman and Cage Attendant regarding simplification of work.
  • Determine load weights and check against lifting capacities.

Ivanplats is looking for a Winding Engine Driver REF: IVP-ENG-2517

IVANPLATS (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is advancing the development of its world-class palladium-rhodium-nickel-copper-gold project in the Limpopo Province near Mokopane. This unique mineral deposit will be exploited using large mechanised state-of-the-art underground mining methods, deploying the latest technology to develop this “mine of the future”.

Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
  • Grade 12/NQF 4 or equivalent
  • Trade Test Certificate Section 13 or 26.
  • DMR Winding Engine Drivers’ certificate of competency.
  • Onsetters certificate.
  • Alternative current (AC) certificate.
  • Direct current (DC) certificate.
  • Full certificate.
  • Limited scope certificate.
  • Valid Code EB (08) Driver’s license.
  • Shaft and Winder Legal Training is advantageous.
Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
  • 1-3 years’ experience as underground Winding Engine Driver.
  • Experience in double drum and friction winder; Engineering related skills licenses.
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:
  • Facilitate the safe hoisting of people, materials and ore, up and down the shaft complying with the Minerals Act.
  • Responsible for the safe movement of men and material in a conveyance or skip.
  • Record conditions of winding engine daily.
  • Responsible for transmitting and reacting to signals.
  • Responsible to complete drivers’ logbook and to list stoppages and reasons daily.
  • Advise and make recommendations to the Banksman and Cage Attendant regarding simplification of work during shift.
  • Determine and verify load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
