Introduction: We are seeking to appoint a Wholesale Pharmacist.

The role will be based at the Roodepoort Lea Glen branch and will report into the Responsible and Compliance Pharmacist.

Job Purpose

To ensure compliance with the Medicines and Related Substances Act, Act of and the Pharmacy Act, Act 53 or as amended, as it relates to the receipt, storage, return for credit and destruction of S5 and S6 products, and the balancing of registers for S5 and S6 products, including invoicing, assembly, packing and distribution of S6 medicines for UPS wholesale.

To perform the functions of a pharmacist to enable the company to ensure continuous pharmacist supervision of premises during operating hours, act as a locum for other pharmacists employed by the company, and be a member of the on-call pharmacist team in the event of a customer requiring emergency life‑saving medicines.

To assist the Responsible and Compliance Pharmacist with other pharmaceutical requirements, including GWP / GDP / GMP adherence, preparing and updating SOPs, conducting self‑inspection audits, conducting staff training, acting as a tutor for pharmacist assistants, and preparing for audits by third parties.

Key Performance Areas
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation regarding receipt, storage, credit returns, destruction of S6 products and balancing of registers, and oversee invoicing, assembly, packing and distribution of S6 medicines for UPS wholesale.
  • Maintain continuous pharmacist supervision of premises, provide locum support, and provide on‑call coverage for emergency life‑saving medicines.
  • Support the Responsible and Compliance Pharmacist with SOP development, self‑inspection audits, staff training, tutor duties, and audit preparation.
Duties
  • Receive S6 products, perform receiving checks, and ensure correct packing and storage.
  • Ensure safe and effective storage of S6 medicines and process customer orders, checking legality, assembling and packing orders according to SOPs.
  • Perform weekly and daily cycle counts of S6 products, investigate discrepancies, and maintain accurate registers.
  • Manage destruction of damaged, unsalable or unsafe stock and maintain required documentation.
  • Prepare for audits, conduct self‑inspection audits, and assist with mock recalls and other audit‑related activities.
  • Ensure high standards of housekeeping, pest control, security and cleanliness in the warehouse.
  • Maintain SOP Committee participation and contribute to SOP updates and policy development.
Skills

Current valid registration in good standing with SAPC.

Communication, management / supervisory, writing, analytical and problem‑solving, and people skills.

Computer literate.

Knowledge

GWP / GDP / GMP.

Pharmaceutical wholesale and distribution (preferably C.P.D).

Pharmaceutical industry laws, regulations and ethics.

Personal Competencies

Honesty, integrity, ethical behaviour, legal compliance, attention to detail.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Education & Qualification: B.Pharm Degree.

Minimum Job Related Experience: Minimum 1 year in the wholesale pharmaceutical industry.
